In a juicy, no-holds-barred interview with the UK's Daily Mail, City girl Whitney Port explains what it's like to be a shy, "non-attention seek[er]" who somehow ended up with very own reality TV show. Among the revealing topics du jour? Whit insists she has "fat days" (just like everybody else), claims she felt out of place on The Hills and cops to a lingering obsession with her ex Jay Lyon's band, Tamarama.

We've laid out our five favorite quotes below (including the part where Whit describes costar Olivia Palermo as "difficult, cold and aloof"), so read on to hear Whitney dish the dirt about living her life in the MTV spotlight.

On getting overshadowed by her Hills costars:
"[W]hen I was on The Hills, there wasn’t a focus on me, I just got on with my day job. But I became genuine friends with Lauren [Conrad] and I got to know the gang – Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt, etc – who were already well-known. But in terms of attention, I just wasn’t in their league."

On how she ended up with her own spinoff:
"I think [MTV] recognized that I am a neutral person, that they could base The City on me and I’d be the solid one, the one that people could relate to. And I gave them a disclaimer; I said, 'If you guys are looking for me to start the dramas, then I’m not that person.'"

The thing about reality stardom? It never really goes away. Even after the season's over and the cameras stop following you around 24/7, you'll always be known as "that guy from that show" and worshiped/hated accordingly. Case in point: shaggy-haired stunner Jay Lyon, who hopped the Canadian border to play a benefit concert (with his Tamarama bandmate, Pottsy) only to discover that Toronto chicks DIG that big City vibe.

According to The Torontoist, the audience mainly (exclusively?) consisted of "a mob of fawning teenagers and twenty-somethings" who love him unconditionally, despite his sometimes rocky relationship with costar/ex Whitney Port (wails of "Where's Whitney?" rang out in between sets), and recent grumbles about him wanting to leave the cast.

And even though Jay was out there trying to do the whole music thing (as separate from his celebreality track), the event organizers -- three teenage girls -- admitted that they picked him for exactly one reason: they "really, really loved The City."

Women. Can't live with 'em, can't get a successful side gig going without 'em.

Last season on The City, Jay's tour with his band, Tamarama, took him away from girlfriend Whitney Port and helped precipitate their breakup. And even though they've since reportedly rekindled the flame (the two were recently spotted making out in NYC), it looks as though Jay's still having trouble balancing his relationship and his career.

So what's the latest setback? That would be Jay's bandmate and friend, Nicolas "Pottsy" Potts, who's fuming over his buddy's decision to sign on for a second season of The City.

"Me and Jay have been discussing it," Pottsy recently told OK! magazine, "and he's inclined to do another season, but I'm not at all ... I think he wants to do the show on a personal level, for various reasons, but for the good of the band, I don't think it's the right decision."

And according to Pottsy's girlfriend, model Jessica Hart, that means Jay's going to be faced with a difficult decision. "He's going to have to choose," Hart says, ominously. In other words, it's Whitney and The City vs. Tamarama.

With the filming of Season Two already underway(!), it looks like he won't have long to make up his mind ...

Things may not have worked out between Jay Lyon and Whitney Port on The City, but that doesn't mean the rebounding rocker wants his ex-girlfriend spending Saturday nights alone. So how does he feel about rumors that Whitney's off smooching someone else (i.e. Lipstick Jungle star Robert Buckley)?

"If that’s what she’s doing, then great if she’s happy," he told OK! Magazine.

Which isn't to say he's over her ... yet.

Most of us hang out with friends from different backgrounds. Not so on The City! Here in Whitney's World, 'Uptown' vs. 'Downtown' is the non-rap equivalent of the East Coast/West Coast rivalry. (Flashback to Episode 6, when Nevan marveled over the invasion of the fedoras at Jay's art opening.)

Yep, apparently Upper West Siders have a zero-tolerance plaid shirt/Beach Boys policy. Which seems to be the main reason why Olivia and her crowd didn't appreciate the mellow musical stylings of Jay's unpretentious band, Tamarama.

+ Think Liv & Co. jumped the gun by writing off Jay? Or was Jay asking for it by showing up in grungewear? Since Uptown and Downtown (apparently) cannot coexist, let us know which side YOU'RE on!

Jay Lyon and his Tamarama bandmate, Pottsy, want you to know that Universal Music Group came a knockin' on their door long before cameras ever started to document Jay's dating sitch with Whitney Port. We repeat, The City is NOT responsible for his big label deal -- just the label of being a 'hip downtowner' who's now officially 'in a relationship.' Watch a clip from our interview with the guys:

OK, OK, we believe you! But don't try and pretend your love songs weren't written with Whitney in mind. Oh wait, they weren't? Check it:

PLUS: What does Jay really think of his female costars? Hear his thoughts on Whit (who's obvs a "jame"), Olivia Palermo and Erin Lucas after the jump!
