Over the past few weeks, we've been having some fun with Final Cut and old footage of ABDC. First we gave you (our opinion of) the Top 5 Game-Changing Moments, which we followed up with something a little lighter, ya know, for a pre-season chuckle: Top 5 Moments of Lil Mama Being ... Lil Mama. And now, just two days before showtime, we're bringing you (again, our opinion of) the Top 5 Tricks from ABDC past. Check 'em out and let us know if you agree with our picks. (Something tells us you'll have plenty to say if not!)
Ringmasters got bit hard by the Hollywood bug during their time on ABDC and have since packed up their bags and started the big move from New York to Cali.
When I spoke with Nugget about this new development, he told me that "Back in Brooklyn, it was cool to be recognized on the streets, but that's not what we care about. We want to keep performing and dancing -- we want to entertain."
So what are all these guys planning to do about room and board? "We're gonna be staying with Beat Freaks for a little until we figure things out," Reggie confided in me at the wrap party Thursday night. Proof positive that the love between these crews is quite real!
What's more, Lindsey Blaufarb a.k.a. Outthere (Beat Freaks) called in a favor and got the boys an audition for Step Up 3, which will be filming in New York. "We know where they come from and we want them to be extremely successful," she told me.
We wish both Ringmasters and Beat Freaks the same continued success and hope to see some bone-breakin' in the upcoming dance film!
All the dancers are back in Los Angeles for the ABDCLive Finale this Thursday night -- and each of the seven crews who were previously eliminated are very much looking forward to this special shot at redemption. One more chance to take the Dance Crew stage and show off their stuff for America!
This year the judges chose how the crews would be grouped for the final dance numbers. Here's what you can expect to see and hear:
Performing to "Just Dance" by Lady Gaga
* Boxcuttuhz
* Beat Freaks
* Team Millennia
Performing to "Right Round" by Flo Rida
* Dynamic Edition
* Strikers All-Stars
* Quest Crew
Performing to "Numba One (Tide is High)" by Kardinal Offishall ft. Keri Hilson
* Fly Khicks
* G.O.P.
* Ringmasters
It's Dance Crew time at Detox again! We were pretty heartbroken to see Ringmasters miss out on tonight's Illusion Challenge. Think of the things those guys would have done! Bone breaking, fancy hat tricks, arm dislocation ... basically what they did every other week. But it still makes me sad. (At this rate, I expect ABDC to have a clogging challenge for next week's episode.)
Speaking of Dynamic Edition, their exit taught Team Detox a valuable lesson: the aromas of beer and milk are severely unpleasant. The "pour one out for the cloggers" gag we shot left the crew gasping for air. Whoops! We would also like to apologize to the custodial staff who had to dispose of the stinky garbage pail that contained all the nasty fluids. Sorry, kids!
So pull a rabbit out of your hat and get impressed by Suri's telekenisis while you watch tonight's MTV Detox!
When we caught up with Lil Mama at last night's Dance Crew taping, she had more than a mouthful to say about her new music video for "Truly in Love" -- especially because it features Season 2's Fanny Pak!
Lil Mama had promised the group a featured spot way back when. "I wanted to keep my word to them," she told us. "When I say I'm gonna do something, I do it."
In the vid, you can also spot Frost and George of Supreme Soul making a cameo behind the Matt Cady-choreographed routine. Something tells me it's only a matter of time before Ringmasters appear in one of Mama's music videos...
It was no secret that Ringmasters held a special place in Lil Mama's heart. And after their dismissal last night, she paid the guys a visit backstage to wish them the very best in their future endeavors. She told the entire crew that they should be proud of what they accomplished on ABDC and that they've inspired kids from rough neighborhoods across the country.
If you're already missing Ringmasters' bone-breakin' madness and tatted-up physiques, you can catch the crew on Extra! tonight. Check your local listings for channel and time -- we can't do everything for you.
Although all the ABDCrews had losery songs/dances to work with, it's safe to say "Macarena" and "Achy Breaky Heart" were the whackest tracks of dem all. But despite the tough assignment, most of the crews rose above their music to deliver an unexpectedly tight routine.
So which crews had (some of) the right stuff? And which ones were 2 legit 2 quit when they still had the chance? Take another look at this week's assignments then tell us which crew almost made parachute pants look cool again.
Ya gotta admit, Ringmasters were pure entertainment during their short time on Dance Crew, and things definitely won't be the same on set without these circus freaks. They fought the good fight, but ultimately bone breakin' just wasn't enough to keep the guys in the competition. Hot pants prevailed.
We interviewed Ringmasters and Fly Khicks immediately after the show wrapped. Check out the video to see how both crews took the news:
Alright, maybe I misled you a teeny tiny bit. The real Michael Jackson wasn't actually at the Dance Crewtaping last night, but his even creepier Vegas version did make an appearance! During one of the commercial breaks, MJ Clone took the stage and danced his white socks off to 'P.Y.T.' -- and the audience loved it!
I'll tell you what though, it takes a lot to make the Ringmasters say, "That's a weird dude." Well played fake Michael, well played.
Yesterday we told you all about the Whack Challenge the crews are facing this week, but the one thing we left out is which dance moves they'll need to incorporate into their routines. Here's a first look at how hard it'll be to keep their cool:
RINGMASTERS - The Macarena
FLY KHICKS - The Running Man meets The Roger Rabbit a.k.a. "The Running Rabbit"
BEAT FREAKS - The Carlton (Fresh Prince, anyone?)
STRIKERS ALL-STARS - 2 Legit 2 Quit hand gestures
DYNAMIC EDITION - Country Line Dance
QUEST CREW - The Pendulum Step mixed with The Prep
You Tell Us: Which of these whack moves are you looking forward to seeing most?
