The Life of Ryan is MTV’s new reality-drama that follows the life of Ryan Sheckler, the youngest professional skateboarder of all time. Now I have a vested interest in this show; my name is Ryan too and I feel a kinship with our young 17-year-old hero. As a Ryan I’m familiar with all the pros (rhymes easily in hip hop songs; sharing a name with cool artists) and cons (being called Ry-guy; sharing a name with uncool artists) that come with the territory. And while it’s arguable whether or not I have a life, I am at least living and I think the best person able to relate and understand the struggles and triumphs of anyone having, in my opinion, the greatest boy-and-sometimes-girl name in existence.
