During a little down time from filming rehearsals this morning, we snooped around backstage and found some artist drawings of the costumes each crew will rock during their group numbers. Check 'em all out, then tell us whose gear looks the hottest!
When all nine Season Four crews take the stage this Sunday night, there will be one dancer missing -- Massive Monkees' Tim Soriano, whose fiance Cember Dacoscos gave birth to a baby girl yesterday! The labor was induced for the safety of both mom and baby, but all is well with both. When I spoke with Tim last night, he was just waking up from a nap at the hospital in Seattle.
"We named her after our parents. Cember's mom's name is Paulina and my mother's name is Anabelle, so we named her Lina Ann," he told me.
Because it was an early delivery, their doctor is keeping Cember and Lina Ann in the hospital to make sure there are no complications, so it was a no-brainer for Tim to stay back home with his girls.
Congrats, Tim, from your Massive Monkees fans and everyone here at ABDC!
All the Season Four crews trickled back into Cali this week to reconnect with each other and rehearse a special number for ABDC's live finale. The excitement revved up immediately after finding out that they'd be split into three different groups for a Judges Choice performance. Check out the lineup:
Shane Sparks' group - Beat Ya Feet Kings, Massive Monkees, Southern Movement
"I Do (Represent)" Lil Jon ft. Swizz Beatz & Snoop Dogg
Lil Mama's group - Artistry In Motion, Vogue Evolution, We Are Heroes
"Girls On The Dance Floor" Far East Movement
JC Chasez's group - AfroBorike, Fr3sh, Rhythm City
"Fire Burning" Sean Kingston
Up until tonight, we could've sworn the Massive Monkees were the crew to beat. But a few heroic girls changed their destiny by rising to the occasion -- and sending those primates packin'. The judges had another tough decision this week, but in the end, it was time for the Monkees to branch out. Hear what the fallen crew had to say post-elimination, and give 'em props for staying upbeat -- and walking outta there like champs.
We pulled out the big guns when we brought former Beat Freak (and Week 7 veteran) Maryss from Paris back to give us a one-of-a-kind backstage tour. Watch as Maryss chats up the final three crews on the eve of battle, and hear what used to get the heart of this freak beating fast back in her Dance Crew days ...
In seasons past, we've seen final performances so great they made it nearly impossible for America to pick a winner - and we're happy to say, this year is no different. The top three crews (Massive Monkees, We Are Heroes and AfroBorike) left it all on the floor last night, and delivered some amazing highlight reel-worthy routines! Here are just a few of the many show-stoppers you'll be seeing on Sunday night's ABDC:
- One crew receives a standing ovation so loud it actually shakes bleachers!
- A drum circle like you've never seen!
- Stage reaches sweltering (hot, hot, HOT!) temperatures.
- All remaining male crew members are shirtless by night's end!
- Lil Mama displays a sense of humor about her VMAs "performance"!
Week seven of ABDC has become infamous for how much stress it causes the remaining crews, who are tasked with putting together TWO killer routines instead of one. "It's mentally and physically draining," Massive Monkees' Jerome Aparis remarked yesterday.
AfroBorike's Veronica Collazo agrees. While she's feeling pretty enthused about her crew's Last Chance Challenge routine ("We built [it] in two or three hours. This is who we are and all the ideas come naturally.") it's the first performance [of the night] that's sucking all their time and energy.
And when we checked in with We Are Heroes, Riquel Olander explained that they've "finished up [choreography] but are still making changes. There's a big stunt and we haven't even tried it out yet." Yikes.
One thing's for certain about Sunday night's episode -- it's do or die time. Got some predictions?
Every season the crews get a chance to spend some studio time with master mixers, District 78. And all week the final three crews have been putting together a track to perform to during their Last Chance Challenge. Here's a sneak peek at all three songs in the making:
After Rhythm City heard they were going home at the end of Sunday night's ABDC, emotions went wild backstage and Alonzo Williams shared some choice words about Massive Monkees. The message boards immediately blew up in response to his comments, so we followed up with the dancer when things calmed down to find out if he still stands by his words:
"We stayed up late just talking about the show and comparing our performance to Massive Monkees' performance," 'Zo told us. "With the utmost respect to our friends Massive Monkees ... we honestly felt we did a better job that night, as well as being consistent throughout the season."
"Shane Sparks made no sense," Alonzo added. "Throughout the whole show he commented that every act was a great tribute performance, but when it came to us, he said he wanted to see our performance to look more like a battle. It was supposed to look like the VMAs but better, not a battle."
Even though the judges didn't agree with Alonzo, he and his crew members feel positive overall. "The whole experience was great and we were honored to rep what we do on that stage! This was bigger than Rhythm City and that $100,000 grand prize. We did this for our community and all the young people out there that have similar lifestyles of broken homes, no guidance, bad neighborhoods and that are influenced by drugs, violence, and gangs."
After a dope ABDC honoring past VMA performances, the night ended as always -- with the remaining crews doin' their thang on the dance floor. Sad to say, but this will be the last cypher of the season ... so get it while the gettin' is hot!
