All the Season Four crews trickled back into Cali this week to reconnect with each other and rehearse a special number for ABDC's live finale. The excitement revved up immediately after finding out that they'd be split into three different groups for a Judges Choice performance. Check out the lineup:
Shane Sparks' group - Beat Ya Feet Kings, Massive Monkees, Southern Movement
"I Do (Represent)" Lil Jon ft. Swizz Beatz & Snoop Dogg
Lil Mama's group - Artistry In Motion, Vogue Evolution, We Are Heroes
"Girls On The Dance Floor" Far East Movement
JC Chasez's group - AfroBorike, Fr3sh, Rhythm City
"Fire Burning" Sean Kingston
Phresh off the plane from Philadelphia this week was Phresh Select's Smart Mark, who did us a solid by holding it down as our latest ABDC guest blogger. Listen to what he was able to squeeze out of the judges pre-taping:
Last night's taping of Episode 6 was SUPER exciting! No joke, thecrews' collective "Smooth Criminal" opening just might've been the best group dance number in ABDC history. At least, in my humble opinion. And even after the smoke (hint, hint) cleared, the high-octane tone of their performance carried on throughout the night. Here are some highlights -- and don't forget, air time is 7pm this Sunday, right before the VMA pre-show kicks off!
- Shane Sparks tells one crew they "outdid" the original VMA performance!
- A wild animal slithers onto the stage!
- One crew pays tribute to Vogue Evolution during their routine!
- Shane and JC verbally spar over entertaining the audience versus representing the art of the dance battle!
- An ABDC first: Double female backflip! (Guess that rules out Massive Monkees, huh?)
Last night's Dance Craze Challenge kept all the crews on their toes - well, actually the mini-tramp kept all the crews in the air! You're in for a real treat this Sunday night when you see how creative all the crews got with their challenge(s), but for now, here are a few of this week's show-stoppin' moments:
- Massive Monkees take full advantage of a photo op with host Mario Lopez!
- The entire audience (including JC Chasez) get to be featured dancers!
- Lil Mama & Leiomy officially clear the air - Pheww!!
- Shane Sparks compliments one crew for not "watering down" their performance.
- A fire extinguisher goes off mid-routine! (See what we did there?)
So what else happens? Guess you'll have to watch this week's show to find out! Tune in this Sunday at 9pm to catch the rest of the high-flying ABDC action!
Each week, we've brought you an ABDC guest blogger from seasons past and this week we got some Strikers All-Stars love! Mike Washington did us (and apparently himself) a favor by flying in from Florida to chat up Shane "Step It Up" Sparks and JC Chasez and make sure that he wasn't fathering another child! Watch the video and you'll see what we mean ...
Last week, the judges came hard with criticism for the remaining crews, and apparently it lit a fire under everyone's ass. At last night's ABDC taping, the dancers fired back with some seriously smokin' performances. Here are a few highlights:
- A crew romance is revealed!
- More than one crew has some choice words for Shane Sparks
- One crew's undergarments end up on JC Chasez!
- Lil Mama scolds one of the girls by telling her to 'act like a lady!'
Sorry, that's all we can say for now. You'll have to tune in Sunday night for the good stuff. And we mean it: REALLY. GOOD. STUFF.
Before Episode 3 of ABDC began to film last night, the seven remaining crews all stood on the stage anxiously waiting to hear "We're on in 20!" (showbiz lingo for "We're going to start filming in 20 seconds."). Then, with one minute left to spare, the warm-up guy pointed out that Quest Crew, Ringmasters,Fanny Pak and recently eliminatedArtistry in Motion were in the stands, to which the fans and Season 4 crews roared. Here are some other fun highlights from the evening:
- JC Chasez loses his ability to form a sentence after one crew's cat-like performance.
- Shane Sparks calls out a crew for being "boring" and another for stealing from YouTube.
- Lil Mama claims to have a yellow belt in Tae Kwon Do.
- Bottom two = Best performances of the night (or so the judges had to say!).
On Making The Band, we were all wondering if Danity Ka... aww man, who cares? Let's be honest! IT'S THE ABDC FINALEEE!!!! WEE!!!!
The ABDC Finale is one of MTV's biggest events -- and that's why Detox had its biggest guests ever stop by the shoot! All of the fan favorites were here: DJ Rasheeda, JC Chasez and of course, Lil Mama! (Sorry Shane Sparks and Mario Lopez, but come on, you're not that interesting. I was more interested in Team Millennia. Who? Exactly.)
Seriously though, thanks so much to viral video sensation John Roberts (of The Tree, Jackie vids fame) for coming by to play a hilarious JC Chasez, and another special thanks to Britney Houston for reprising her role of Lil Mama! They are extremely talented and hilarious -- so Google them to laugh until you cry. As for DJ Rasheeda ... I wonder what she was doing here on Detox anyway? Didn't she know that ABDC was being shot live?!
Congrats Quest Crew! We loved you on So You Think You Can Dance? And we loved you on Randy Jackson Presents: America's Best Dance Crew -- so it's time to make an appearance on Detox, fools!
Be sure to watch DUDE NIGHT on Sunday and then check your Detox at MTV.com right after!
The tempo for this season of ABDC was set early on: Chicks Rule! And might I just say, it's about time some ladies dominated the stage.
After JC and Lil Mama gave the Beat Freaks mad props for last night's performance, Shane Sparks added, "I think you should be called America's Best Dance Crew," which caused a deafening roar from the studio audience. And by night's end, Fly Khicks handed the all-male squad of Strikers All-Stars a plane ticket back to Florida.
So, what do you think? Isthere a chance for an all-female final, or can Quest Crew rise above the hype?
Before tonight's episode of ABDC taped, Phil Collins (Season 2's Fanny Pak) dug deep into the judging styles of Lil Mama and JC Chasez. Watch him hangin' with the people who were once his toughest critics!
