It's quickly creepin' up on us. In just two weeks, a Season Four champion of ABDC will be crowned! Man, seems like just yesterday Season One's JabbaWockeeZ were blowin' us away with their awesome isolations. Still, the Jabbas had three other tough crews to top at this point in the competition, and that got us thinking ...
The current remaining crews are extremely different from one another, showing us the full spectrum of dance moves and making the competition that much more tough to judge. But are they the most talented final four from all seasons? Take the poll and tell us: Which group of dancers brought the game to its highest level?
Season 1 Final Four Crews JabbaWockeez, Status Quo, Kaba Modern, BreakSk8
Season 2 Final Four Crews Super Cr3w, SoReal Cru, Fanny Pak, Boogie Bots
Season 3 Final Four Crews Quest Crew, Beat Freaks, Fly Khicks, Strikers All-Stars
Season 4 Final Four Crews AfroBorike, Massive Monkees, Rhythm City, We Are Heroes
Over the past few weeks, we've been having some fun with Final Cut and old footage of ABDC. First we gave you (our opinion of) the Top 5 Game-Changing Moments, which we followed up with something a little lighter, ya know, for a pre-season chuckle: Top 5 Moments of Lil Mama Being ... Lil Mama. And now, just two days before showtime, we're bringing you (again, our opinion of) the Top 5 Tricks from ABDC past. Check 'em out and let us know if you agree with our picks. (Something tells us you'll have plenty to say if not!)
The girls of SassX7 are all back together after a nice and welcomed break from each other. They told us that they were thrilled to learn how many lives they had touched with their dancing -- something they didn't realize until they flew back home to their native New Jersey.
Now that they're back on ABDC for one final performance, the all-female crew is excited to soak in the new styles of Phresh Select and Boogie Bots for their regional number and have another shot at showing America what they're capable of doing on stage.
Good thing the boys from Supreme Soul are done "taking a break from each other." Because last week, they were all flown into the Big Apple for an appearance on the ABDC countdown show. Mitch and Frost had never been to NYC before, so they did what any other tourist would do: they grabbed their cameras and headed straight for the neon lights of Times Square.
Of course, they also found time to hang with the locals.
"While we were in New York," says RJ, "We also went to the Teen Choice Awards and got to perform on stage behind Lil Mama, which was a trip!" Turns out Lil Mama asked the guys if they'd accompany her on stage and (naturally) they jumped at the chance.
Yeah, something tells me that's one invitation the Boogie Bots won't be getting anytime soon...
Last week, the final four crews were invited to perform at Dodger Stadium. And while we were a day too early to see Manny in his new Dodger blues, we did get to see ABDC take over the ballpark and tear it up in center field. Fortunately, we saved our ticket stub and kept a handy-dandy photo diary. So check out our digital scrapbook for all the behind-the-scenes pre-game action.
The crews arrived super early - before batting practice even started. And, like kids on a school outing, they made the most of their "field" trip. Here they are, excitedly gazing down upon their soon-to-be stage.
Before anyone knew what to do with the crews, they had them chillin' in the nose bleed section! Sadly, none of the shops or venders were open yet, so the Dodger dogs would have to wait.
Down on the field, the crews chatted with various members of the press while a giant "GIANT" (rookie Gino Espineli) came over to pose with the comparably teeny SoReal Cru.
Meanwhile, Super Cr3w and Fanny Pak kept busy by taking self-portaits of themselves behind home plate. They must've tried at least 7 or 8 times to get that shot! Not sure if they ever did, though...
Last week we said goodbye to the Boogie Bots on ABDC, and this week we're learning that they're not as robotic as we thought they were. Case in point, crew member Ryan Dalisay admitting that they're actually relieved to be off the show. Why? Because now "the stress is off our shoulders and we are back in the real world." And that's no artificial intelligence.
"I know our performance wasn't that great," Dalisay confided. "I [already] thought it was pretty bad...but hearing [Lil Mama's] comments was like twisting the knife." (Ouch).
So, what's the former Bot boy been doing since the show? Well, right now he's flying solo for the Hip-Hop International contest in Vegas, but he'll be rejoining his crew back in D.C. after the show finale.
Did Fanny Pak really deserve to get a standing ovation for their performance Thursday night, or were the judges just rubbing it further into the Boogie Bots' face that they didn't deliver? I thought the Pak did their best job yet -- by far -- but didn't Super Cr3w also deserve a standing O for nailing probably their most electric performance of the season? As for the Bots, it couldn't have been easy heading back out to the stage after seeing their competition praised by four out of four judges. Thoughts, anyone?
Earlier in the week, the crews got a little break from their eat/dance/eat/dance/sleep/dance schedule and were invited to perform at Dodger Stadium before and during the game. It was like watching kids in a candy shop as they were ushered into their fully stocked suites overlooking first base. Most of them had never been to a baseball game before, let alone in such style! When it was time to perform, Super Cr3w and SoReal Cru kicked it off by dancing smack dab in the middle of center field before game time. The Boogie Bots and Fanny Pak did their thing during the second inning right next to the visiting dugout.
To go out in style and with humility -- that's what previous fallen crews have strived for, and the Boogie Bots achieved just that tonight in spite of a ruthless Lil Mama. Sure, sure... maybe she had some good points, but wasn't there a nicer way to say it?
Before it was official, the Bots unfortunately had a sneaking suspicion they'd meet their fate tonight. But they kept their cool and (literally) bowed out of the game like pros. After taping, I asked them all about their gesture, and they said it was "to give the audience the respect back that they gave us." Hear more from the Boogie Bots backstage after the show.
During this week's rehearsals, the Boogie Bots spent way too much time and effort working on a routine that was meant to impress the judges... but it didn't sit well with their conscience. What kind of crew are you if you're not dancing for your fans?
So at the 11th hour, the Bots choreographed another number that suited their style more, which ultimately meant sleep would be out of the question. Good thing robots don't need any...
