Among the mighty feats that MTV's "Girl Code" accomplishes is empowering its viewers to laugh off their insecurities and embrace their inner superstar. There's a kick-ass chick in all of us, so each week, we're shining the spotlight on one newsworthy woman who deserves a standing ovation. And some cake. Cake is good. Take a look at our latest pick!

AlondraPerla

Alondra Gervacio holds her daughter, Perla, during an interview.

Being a mom is a hard enough job as it is, but being a mom and covert superhero? Excuse us while we explode into applause.

New York City mom Alondra Gervacio learned how to strike that balance earlier this week, when an out of control taxi cut across multiple lanes on a busy street and directly into her -- and her baby's -- path. The taxi driver, who had collapsed from a heart attack behind the wheel, hit Alondra and crushed the stroller she was pushing under its wheels, trapping Alondra's eight-month-old daughter, Perla, under the car.

Unconcerned for her own safety, Alondra summoned superhuman strength and dove under the taxi to rescue her little girl. Running high on a mix of adrenaline and pure mama-bear power, Alondra pulled Perla from under the car and rushed her to safety. Thanks to Alondra's quick thinking, the pair only suffered minor injuries, and thanks to CCTV, the moment has been captured on tape to remind everyone that superheros walk among us, every day.

Corey Simms Wedding

 Cute, casual and country.

It looks like congratulations are in order for yet another member of the "Teen Mom 2" family! After getting engaged last December, Leah Calvert's ex-husband and father of Ali and Aleeah, Corey Simms, married his fiancée, Miranda Patterson, in an intimate, countrified ceremony on Friday evening.

In true West Virginia fashion, Corey wore exactly what he does on every episode of "Teen Mom 2" -- a flannel shirt and jeans -- while Miranda, Ali and Aleeah donned more traditional white dresses. Though his extreme brand of country-casual raised a few eyebrows, Corey's dad, Jeff, assured fans that the laid-back bride was very much on board with her dude's wedding-day duds. "Lot of comments about Corey 'showing up' to his wedding in jeans. He and Miranda planned every aspect of the ceremony, this was their day," he tweeted. "She wore cowboy boots and rocked it."

As for the family's feelings about the new addition, Jeff had nothing but kind words for Miranda. "My new daughter in law is an absolute joy! We are blessed to have her in our family!" described Jeff. She sounds like a perfect fit for the Simms clan -- hell, the girl wore cowboy boots to her own wedding. Corey finally found his match made in country heaven!

Hollie McNish

Hollie McNish breaks down immigration reform with rhymes.

A life as a public representative isn't for everyone, but that doesn't mean those who exist outside of government offices don't have a stake in policy, too. British slam poet Hollie McNish, who won the 2009 United Kingdom Slam Championships, is an artist who's especially invested in politics, and a two-minute poem she drafted is proof that the pen is, indeed, mightier than the sword.

Addressing the racism and xenophobia she sees in her native Britain, Hollie's poem, "Mathematics," fights against the notion that immigrants are implicitly guilty of stealing jobs, houses or other resources away from the population.

"Man, I am sick of crappy mathematics, 'cuz I love a bit of sums. I spent three years into economics and I geek out over calculus. And when I meet these paper claims that one of every new that came takes away one's daily wage, I desperately want to scream, 'Your maths is stuck in primary,'" Hollie rhymes.

Jeremy Calvert

Dude looks like a lady.

Sharing a house with four girls has brought Jeremy Calvert deeply in touch with his feminine side. Earlier this week, the new dad was caught on camera wearing one of his wife's tops while folding laundry, and as revenge for his nosy online habits, Leah posted the pic to their joint Facebook page. "For all the times Jeremy hacked my stuff!" the "Teen Mom 2" cast member wrote.

Sadly, it looks like Jeremy's dreams of being a bearded lady may have to be put on hold, because while the blue off-the-shoulder number may accent his muscular torso (looks like someone's been hitting the gym!), it's probably not appropriate for work. Too much skin!

On another note: While it's great to see Jeremy try to better understand his wife -- you never fully understand someone until you walk a mile in their shoes, or fold clothes in their shirt -- she might not be too thrilled if he starts borrowing her jewelry. Stick to flannels and baseball caps, Jer.

Kristin Bridal

Kristin Cavallari celebrates her upcoming nuptials in traditional bridal-shower fashion.

Kristin Cavallari may have traded in "The Hills" of Hollywood for the Midwest's flat expanses to shack up with fiancé Jay Cutler, but her move away from California's sunny shores hasn't broken the bonds of the fiercely loyal friendships she made back where her career began.

K-Cav, who gave birth to son Camden Jack just 10 months ago, is already back in killer shape, as evidenced by an adorable Instagram pic from her Sunday bridal shower in L.A. The former mean girl, looking like a pageant princess in a long-sleeved teal-and-white Donna Mizani romper topped off with jewelry from her own collection, positively beamed next to her BFFs. While we're used to seeing Kristin decked out in a variety of designer duds, she chose to cheese up the party in traditional bridal style with a sparkly tiara and veil, as well as a very fetching "Bride to Be" sash.

Kristin hasn't announced her wedding date yet, but it looks as if she may be preparing for some summer nuptials. Perhaps a return to Orange County could be in store? We know of a great beach to throw a party...

SnookiAnnexCover

Snooki made a rather quick (and drastic!) transformation from cute "Jersey Shore" party girl to sophisticated business empress, and if her recent cover shoot for the "Dream Issue" of Annex Magazine is any indication, Snooki 2.0 is here to stay. Showing off her hard-earned muscles in a series of sleek, dramatic looks -- including a long silver dress and a chic cherry halter -- while being doted upon by makeup artists and hair stylists, Snooks looks every bit as at home in the mag's behind-the-scenes video as she does on the couch with her fiancé, Jionni, and son Lorenzo.

For one of the shots in the spread, the crazy-successful entrepreneur -- from sunglasses and slipper lines to a new workout video and music agency, girl's got her career on lock! -- fittingly went for a business-casual look, posing in a pair of tighty-whities and a white button-down. She sure has come a long way from the days of the pouf and blowing off work at the Shore Store! But while Nicole is certainly spending a lot of time at the office, she constantly makes it clear to her social media followers who's always at the front of her mind: "Hate saying bye for the day miss my son & @jlavalle already?" she tweeted recently. All the fancy gowns in the world will never hold a candle to the love this guidette-4-life has for her fam!

Proud mama, healthy baby, incredible story.

Having a baby is one of the most impressive, difficult and all-around bad-ass things a human being can accomplish -- seriously, you made a person -- so what could make giving the gift of life even more amazing? Try doing it while technically dead.

That's exactly what happened to Texas teacher Erica Nigrelli, who collapsed in a friend's classroom while 36 weeks pregnant. After Erica fell to the floor, her quick-thinking coworkers administered CPR and defibrillator panels to her chest, but to no avail -- her heart had stopped.

Doctors at a nearby hospital were able to deliver her baby via post-mortem C-section, but then something even more extraordinary happened: Erica came back to life. The new mom was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, an often-fatal condition that causes thickening of the heart muscle, and was then fitted with a pacemaker to keep her ticker from becoming a time bomb.

As for her baby, Elayna, she's happy, healthy and has certainly more than earned her "Mommy's Little Miracle" onesie.

Kailyn Wedding Invites 2

Save the date!

Break out the bubbly, because Kailyn Lowry is officially back to planning her fairytale wedding! The "Teen Mom 2" cast member, who married Javi Marroquin on Season 4 in a no-frills courthouse ceremony, decided to postpone her dream celebration earlier this year due to financial constraints. "Looks like we'll be pushing the wedding back an entire year. :( Just not in our budget this year like we planned. #taxes," Kail tweeted on March 14. But on Wednesday of this week, an Instagram shot of save-the-date cards told a different story. "& they're out! #savethedate," she captioned, showing a stack of cream-colored envelopes, each with a white rose stamp.

While it's still unclear when exactly the pair will tie the knot, it looks as though Kail already has her ducks in a row. Not only has she picked out a dress, but the expecting mom is hitting up Twitter for leads on a DJ. "Keep it in the MTV fam. @DJPaulyD DJ our wedding?" she tweeted.

With non-stop national gigs, and Snooki's and JWOWW's nuptials already on hold, we hope Pauly can find the time in his busy spinning schedule to come through for Kail. That's one crossover special we'd be sure not to miss!

Vinny

Can we get a doggy bag, please?

Meeting a friend's parents for the first time can be a nerve-racking experience. What if you accidentally swear in front of them, or mistake the decorative seashell-shaped soap in the bathroom for the stuff you're actually supposed to use? In an instant, you could wind up being the "bad influence."

Unless your friend is Vinny Guadagnino, in which case, an invitation to his family's Staten Island home entails nothing but good food and fun.

On "The Show With Vinny," the Guadagninos' celeb house guests (Ke$ha, Lil Wayne, A$AP Rocky, just to name a few) are all treated to authentic Italian meals by Mrs. G, and, like a true mom, she's not happy until everyone's cleaned their plate. "They would all say they don’t eat on camera, or that they didn’t have time," Paola recently told the Daily News of her new A-list pals from "The Show." "But when the food was on the table, they ate, especially once they get here and they sit and they realize they are in a home, and Vinny’s mom is there cooking.”

EeshaKhareDevice

Eesha Khare shows off her groundbreaking invention.

When Lynbrook High School student Eesha Khare set out to make a scientific discovery that could change the world, she knew she should start with a cause close to her heart. And what's closer to a teenage girl's heart than her cellphone?

The 18-year-old Saratoga, Calif., resident concentrated her efforts on the lackluster energy storage devices currently available to consumers, and invented one of her own that can charge cell phones in under 30 seconds. It's also small enough to fit inside the phone. So how exactly does it work? The "supercapacitor" crams a ton of energy into a tiny space, which makes it capable of holding and sustaining more battery power than any celly. You know, like when you squeeze eight of your friends into your Civic, and the high-decibel giggling practically revs the engine. (Or maybe that's just your lead foot.)
