The San Francisco cast first stopped being strangers in 1994.
“Real World: Portland” will mark the twenty-eighth time a group of strangers has been picked to live in a house, have their lives taped by MTV and find out what happens when people stop being polite and start getting real. But luckily for newbies Jessica, Averey and the rest of the new cast, the “Real World” way has been paved by a slew of people before them: folks like Heather B. from Season 1 in New York and Dunbar from Season 18 in Sydney! In celebration of our “Retro MTV: Real World” marathon this weekend, we’ve put together this NYC-to-Sydney photo album time capsule, which is bound to make you say, “Holy crap! I totally forgot about that person!”
Since 1992, “Real World” has been conducting its own brand of social experimentation that started with a New York loft on Broadway. Since then, it’s woven through coastal California, made its way to the tippity-top of the Rocky Mountains and even gone as far as The City of Lights to prove that people who come from different neighborhoods and have different beliefs can still connect when they wade in the same hot tub and neglect doing dirty dishes for days. In celebration of Portland’s premiere on the 27th, you can catch some classic seasons when New York, San Francisco and Las Vegas take over your TV screens at 8 p.m. on Friday until Sunday afternoon.
+ Take a look back at “Real World” seasons past in our photo flipbook, tune in for the weekend’s mega-marathon and catch the “Real World: Portland” premiere on March 27 at 10/9c!
