Long before MTV’s “Catfish” documented the story of a nursing student named Sunny who discovered that a high school girl was pretending to be her Internet-boyfriend, the show’s creator, Nev Schulman, was himself the victim of online deceit. A middle-aged woman named Angela posed as a totally different person, Megan, in the show’s namesake documentary, and despite the heartbreak he incurred after finally meeting her, Nev says that the two still keep in touch.
“Angela and I went through a lot together,” he says in the video below. “And our lives will forever be connected.” No, Nev and Angela don’t have a weekly lunch date, and there’s no buddy-buddy sitcom in the works, but the filmmaker says he and his own “Catfish” exchange holiday cards–and even birthday gifts–by mail. “It’s a pleasure to still be in touch,” he says, and adds that he’s always just a call away if Angela needs him.
