When a guy "beats himself up" over girl troubles, it's usually meant figuratively. Sadly, Robb was so distraught over his unclear relationship with Marie on tonight's "Real World: St. Thomas" that he went as far as to physically harm himself, drawing the concern of both Trey and Brandon and leaving his face bruised and arm marred with cigarette burns. He vowed to stop after Brandon confronted him, but with his heart still hanging in the balance, a relapse seemed entirely possible.
Marie first set off her kind-of/sort-of boyfriend by jokingly flirting with the owner of a local bar during a quiet night out. Robb didn't appear to have any problem with her making new friends, but it was clear back at the house that he was simply waiting for the right moment to release his anguish. While perched on the seawall, Robb pressed lit cigarettes to his bare flesh and confessed to Brandon that it wasn't the first time he'd dabbled in self-mutilation. He said he knew Marie wanted someone rich and better looking when it came to the bigger picture, and was tired of being her boyfriend out of convenience when he invested so much in her. Robb's destructive trend continued, and after a heart-to-heart with LaToya, he only felt worse, and struck his own face with a closed fist until his roommates could detect bruises.
+ Robb eventually told Marie he'd stop harming himself, but do you believe him? And should he listen more intently to Brandon, who's already been through similar struggles? Take our poll and sound off in the comments.
