Each of the "Teen Mom" cast members experienced a great deal of family discord while navigating their path through pregnancy and early motherhood, but while Maci, Amber and Farrah's relationships with their parents have improved over the seasons, Catelynn's progress with her mother, April, and her step-dad, Butch (who is also her fiance's father), has remained stagnant. We saw a glimmer of hope on Season 3 when April agreed to attend counseling with her daughter, but according to Cate in the below clip from our latest "Teen Mom After Show, that was a one-time-only deal. Sadly, April's alcohol problems and co-dependence with a physically abusive man who's constantly in and out of jail has made it utterly impossible for the family to function in a stable manner.
As of now, Catelynn's pretty much given up the fight for a happily ever after--that is, unless her mom can stay sober indefinitely and sever ties with Butch. "It is a very, very toxic relationship for both of them, so hopefully they can just get away from each other," she says. For her part, Catelynn is determined to do better for her own child. "I'm never ever gonna let my kid see me with a drink...I don't ever want my child to see me in a different state of mind."
