For many, crossing the Atlantic to The City of Lights is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Luckily for Lauren Conrad, a second chance came around after she let the first pass her by, and by the time the first half of the “Hills“‘ third season came to a close (‘lotta episodes this time around, folks), neither hell nor high water could stand in her way. And as her plane took off, she was elated to leave Los Angeles–at least for a little while–and a banner year of throat-eroding fights behind.
As Retro Mania continues to plow through the adventures of LC, Heidi, Audrina and Whitney, we felt it was important to give Season 3 the careful consideration it deserves. From meeting Justin Bobby and Stephanie Pratt to the infamous “forgive and forget” sit-down, take a look at five must-see moments from the “Hills” hat-trick season, when the idea of a Mr. and Mrs. Pratt first became a distinct possibility.
You Know What You Did! When Season 2 left off, it was unclear if Lauren and Heidi would be able to repair their friendship, between which Spencer had driven a huge wedge. Welp, the girls were kind enough to conclude NOPENEVERNOTINAMILLIONYEARS when Lauren confronted Heidi one night at Frankie’s birthday. “You know what you did!” Lauren shouted at Heidi, who denied propagating rumors that Lauren and ex Jason had made a sex tape. But was Heidi really responsible? We’ll get there…in a few seasons.
Meet Justin Bobby: Is he Justin? Is he Bobby? Suffice it to say, the man was an enigma, and when Lauren and Lo first heard about Audrina’s rekindled flame, they couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity of the hipster with a double-downed identity. Check out a moment of hilarity in Season 3′s stew of drama, and for the line that was on everyone’s lips the next day: “I think that Justin Bobby took your ticket.”
Forgiveness? Try The Next Door Down: Both Heidi and Lauren seemed sort of aloof when it came to repairing their friendship after the season premiere’s massive fight, but after some healthy contemplation, Heidi realized she missed her girl, and made the mistake of arranging a sit-down in an attempt to get her back. Wrong move. Lauren didn’t feel a hint of sincerity in Heidi’s apology, and when Heids tried to defend Spencer’s turning of the rumor-mill, LC kindly told her ex pal to get the hell out of her apartment and never speak to her again.
Meet She-Pratt: When Lauren Conrad eventually took her last looks at the “Hills,” it was with a lifelong friend in Stephanie Pratt, but when the way the two met is considered, it’s amazing they were ever able to have a relationship at all. Stephanie didn’t take too kindly to LC when the two first came face-to-face, and chewed her out for being cold to Heidi and Spencer. LC insisted it was none of the girl’s business, and Stephanie’s resultant scowl is permanently burned into our brains.
One-Way To France, No Connections: Lauren spent most of Season 3 working her ass off at Teen Vogue so Lisa Love might grant her the chance to go to Paris when the opportunity came back around. Unfortunately, Lisa deferred to Whitney again, who’d done a bang-up job the year before, and Lauren was crestfallen. But when Ms. Love got a call for extra help, Lauren was back on the roster and didn’t think twice about her second shot at Paris. Unfortunately, things weren’t as exciting for Heidi and Spencer, who decided they needed to take a break after remaining at odds about wedding plans.
