‘True Life’ Check-In: Find Out Who’s Kicked Caffeine For Good!

Today’s “True Life” explored the stories of three young caffeine addicts that put their health at risk in order to maintain a nonstop buzz. We had an opportunity to check in with them and find out how their lives have changed since filming wrapped. Take a look at the follow-up Q&As below.

CRYSTAL
Have you been able to stay off of caffeine since we saw you pouring your soda down the drain?
I’ve been off of it. It was hard at first, but I managed to make it through. The worst part of the withdrawal was the extreme lack of energy. I still am having issues with being exhausted all the time but my and my baby’s health is a priority.

How has your struggle with caffeine affected your relationship with Brian?
It’s had a negative impact on our relationship, but he is more understanding now that he sees that I am off of caffeine completely. It was hard because he didn’t understand the struggle I was going through; it caused a few arguments but in the end I’m glad he stuck by my side and remained supportive.

What was it like sharing your story with us?
I don’t think I knew the extreme amount of caffeine I was consuming. It really opened up a whole new world, and it helped me stop living in denial.

ADAM
Has your daily routine changed now that you’re not on caffeine?
I’ve started to sleep a little more than I used to, but I’m still going strong with everything…just not the caffeine.

Now that you have been off of caffeine for four months, do you think you will integrate it back into your life?
As of now I don’t believe so. It’s been one of the hardest things I have done, but I feel great now and it seems I don’t need it anymore.

What was it like sharing your story with us?
I really wanted this to resonate with the younger crowd. It’s hard and a lot of people look to caffeine to keep them going.

LEANDRA
How has your caffeine consumption affected your pregnancy?
As of right now I don’t drink any caffeine whatsoever, but once my daughter is born I think I will be using caffeine again but not to the extent that I was. I will be a single mom and working full-time so there will be some coffee in my future. I just need to use it responsibly.

Now that you don’t have to live at home with your mother, have you had any more temptation to increase your caffeine intake again?
There’s really no temptation. All I really need to do is learn how to manage my life better and learn how to say no to going out late to see friends.

How have your sleep patterns changed now that you’re off of caffeine?
At this moment I don’t sleep very well, but that’s just because I am currently 32 weeks pregnant. Although, before I was this far along in my pregnancy my sleep pattern varied quite a bit.

What was it like sharing your story with us?
It’s intimidating having two cameras in your face before you’ve even had the chance to have your morning cup of coffee. The one thing I really hope people notice is that using so much caffeine is not healthy. Caffeine causes so many problems to your health after prolonged use.
