Earlier today, we learned that "Jersey Shore" castie Pauly D landed one of the coolest jobs in the music world! He's just been offered a gig as the exclusive resident DJ at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. We were lucky enough to jump on a call with the elated mix-master to find out whether or not he's ready to take over Sin City. Check it out below.
First, how excited are you to join such renowned DJs at the PALMS?
I'm so excited, it's the best thing that could have ever happened to me. Only big dogs can do it. DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ AM, Oakenfold. My heart's still pounding. I'm going crazy right now!
I hear that your Vegas crowds are getting so huge that they're running out of room!
It's amazing. I always say it, and I know it sounds corny, but I'm truly living my dream right now. I remember before all this, I was just a hardworking DJ in Rhode Island. People knew to go to my spots because I always packed them. I always enjoyed working hard to get it popping, and then "Jersey Shore" gave me this opportunity to test my talent. They put me in new venues and I kept getting rebooked. Then they put me in Vegas for a test and I smashed it; I killed it. They don't just let anybody spin there, you have to know what you're doing and rock the crowd.
So are they putting you right to work? When's your first official day?
The official launch is in June after I'm done with Italy. I'm gonna do all their venues, pool parties, Rain, Gold Bar, everything.
Have you been researching the music scene in Italy? Are you gonna try and spin while you're there?
They have a lot of dance music. And you know, there's a Facebook page of people trying to get me to spin over there. They have 10,000 people signing this petition! I think it's called "Get Pauly D To DJ in Italy."
No way, that's incredible. Would you do it?
Oh yeah, I love to DJ and I don't like to go that long without spinning, but it's something I gotta make happen myself if I wanna do it.
And how's your Italian Rosetta Stone coming along? Have you been practicing Italian or are you too busy?
Haha, no I haven't been practicing. I'm just gonna go there and wing it.
