Of all the places to ring in the new year, Times Square has to be the most iconic. You have the ball drop, confetti, thousands of people in the streets and, this year, hordes of "Jersey Shore" fans fist-pumping. With help from the cast, we set the world record for most people fist-pumping in one place at one time! Then, to count down to 2011, everyone's favorite Poughkeepsie Princess, Snooki, dropped down in a one-of-a-kind ball! In case you missed it, here's the clip of her descent:
I don't think the excitement and awe of cohosting MTV's New Year's Eve bash set in until about one minute before we went live. The crowd was ready to start partying, the opening music started playing and we were on our way to end the year! It was amazing to be in the middle of everything. At one point, I ran up to the window to check out the crowd in Times Square and waved. People waved back and started cheering in anticipation of the final countdown.
The show itself went by so fast. I interviewed Ashley Benson and Shay Mitchell from "Pretty Little Liars." (I asked them about the identity of "A," but of course they wouldn't spill.) Before I knew it, it was time to count down the final seconds of 2010: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1: HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
When the "Snooki Ball" dropped and the clock struck midnight, a cloud of multicolored confetti blanketed Times Square. Everyone in the studio hugged, and Sammi and Ronnie totally made out. The best part about being in the studio was that it's the home for "The Seven." We're working to get it even cooler than it was for the New Year's Eve show, so don't miss our live show today from right above Times Square!
I'm really excited for this new year and can't think of a better way to ring it in. It was certainly a New Year's Eve that I will never forget!
