Each week, 16 and Pregnant introduces a young woman with an incredibly difficult predicament, digs deep into the heart of her personal struggle and gets us discussing our own viewpoints on the issues that arise. It's a heavy hour filled with some major emotional ups and downs, as well as lessons about love and limitations. But if there's one thing that's been conveyed most consistently throughout both seasons of this series, it's that getting pregnant means having to make serious, life-altering decisions.
Regardless of whether she opts to terminate the pregnancy, make an adoption plan or raise the baby herself, the impact of a pregnant teen's choice will be felt forever. Maybe it's losing all of her free time because the child needs to be fed and bathed and watched at all times, or maybe it's more of a mental adjustment that's needed to deal with separation anxiety, or guilt. The simple fact is nothing stays the same after finding out you're pregnant.
On tonight's episode, we saw how excruciating it was for Lori to come to a decision on what to do about her pregnancy. (Lori and her ex-boyfriend Cory remained on the fence about raising the child vs. making an adoption plan throughout her entire nine months, and even days after delivery.) In our After Show, Lori also explained to SuChin Pak how much she's still affected by the stress. Ultimately, she stands behind her choice but acknowledges she'll never fully recover from giving Aiden away.
It took immense courage for Lori to go through with the adoption plan, but it also takes an equal amount of strength to raise a child at such a young age. We want to hear what you think would be harder to cope with: being an active teen mom or handing over the responsibility to another couple? Take the poll and share your opinions.
