Last week's Real World: Cancun and its After Show took a serious turn when Ayiiia's cutting problem was revealed to the roommates, as well as to viewers at home. Since the episode aired, we've received a lot of questions and comments on MTV.com, so we got in touch with To Write Love on Her Arms, a non-profit organization that seeks to present hope and find help for people struggling with depression, addiction and self-injury. Below, read Kaitlyn from TWLOHA's blog post to get more insight on the complexities of cutting and find links to helpful resources.
Last week I received a text that read, “Are you by a computer? I just emailed you, and this is important.”
Jamie Tworkowski, founder of To Write Love on Her Arms, had asked me to draft a response on our TWLOHA blog regarding the most recent episode of MTV’s Real World: Cancun, in which Ayiiia’s history of self-injury is exposed.
Together, a few members of our team watched the story unfold online, with its house-wide, honest responses to the issue of self-injury (or, “self-mutilation” as Ayiiia referred to it). After seeing the episode, we also viewed a couple of the 'Backstage Pass' videos, as well as reactions showing up on Twitter and on our various social networking websites. Some of them were negative, but somewhat understandable ... As much as hurtful responses toward people struggling with self-injury are not OK, often they’re the only way people know how to initially respond at all. (In fact, many of the cast members admitted to having a new perspective on Ayiiia’s struggles after speaking with a doctor post-production.)

Real World: Cancun airs Wednesdays at 10pm, but you don’t have to wait ’til then to check out the raw footage. Every day, we’ll be sifting through the ‘Real World Dailies‘ to make sure you’re getting your fill of the Cancun crew. (Tough job, we know, but hey — someone’s gotta do it!)
Joey's had a lot of luck with the ladies in Cancun so far, and he says it's all about the arm tats. Chicks dig a dude with body ink, the boy-faced rocker bro explains to rapt roomies Jonna and Emilee. And he's not just referring to Spring Breakers. Watch the J-man give a crash course on one-night stands and find out which of his female flatmates wants a ride on the Joeymobile ...

There may have been some debate about Jaila's sexuality (for the record, girl's a pre-op transsexual) but there was never any question about the diva-in-training's amazing vocal skillz. After sitting through some warbling, snoozy and (occasionally) sharp renditions of Estelle's "American Boy," Jaila took the stage and TORE IT UP, earning instant props from Diddy and quickling establishing herself as the singer to beat.
So what's her secret? Unlike the cookie cutter soloists before her, Jaila didn't come at this like a karaoke queen. Instead of merely channeling Estelle, Miss J gave the song some serious soul, forcing the judges (and the other contestants) to take notice, of both the pipes and the innovation. And while we saw a bunch of shining stars tonight (Brockett, you're a beast on keyboards, dude!), we're thinking Jaila might be the one to watch.
+ Think Jaila's got the vocal chops to make it into Diddy's band? Or were you impressed with Charity (or Nina Mac)'s skillz? Tell us which of the aspiring singers you guys think hit all the right notes!

We're only one episode into Making His Band and already we're seeing some serious standouts. So far, Jamirio and Blake are our new guitar heroes, plus we're loving Jaila's vocal stylin', Kristopher's sick/sweaty drum solos and watching Brockett (a.k.a. "White Beethoven") tear it up on the keys. But, talented as these kids are, they're gonna have to learn how to do things Diddy's way -- and try not to steal the show. (Like musical director Rob Lewis said, "being a backup musician is 100% about the artist.")
+ Think any of these guys (and girls) are worthy of sharing the stage with Diddy? Or do they all need plenty of polishing? Let us know which of these featured players has a shot of making it big!

Diddy's the kind of guy who runs marathons in his spare time and sprints up and down football stadiums (a la Rocky) just for fun. So we were kinda surprised when his mentor, Andre Harrell, suggested the Diddster drop a few pounds before his next album release. Think the Bad Boy seriously needs to lose weight? Take our poll and let us know whether there's more of him to love!

Have you ever tried wiping the grin off your face for a sexy photograph, a la M-K and Ash Olsen? It sounds easy, we know, but do it wrong and you run the risk of looking bored and pissed-off instead of sultry and mysterious. Fortch, The City's Erin Lucas seems to have mastered Tyra Banks' so-called art of smiling with her eyes. Take a look at these Top Model-worthy shots and give our girl props for showin' off her more serious side!

If there's anyone who knows how to work it in front of the cameras, it's former reality TV star Lauren Conrad. And while she might've said toodle-oo to the Hills crew, LC's still fending off plenty o' flashbulbs as an author, designer and lingerie-lovin' reality ex-pat. Last weekend, LC hosted a rager at Harrah's Atlantic City casino and attracted more than 3,000 guests! (Mostly of the twenty-something/"OMG, we love you!!!" variety.)
Peep these party pix and note the giant flock of fangirls trying to get a glimpse (and maybe even a cell phone pic) of LC's little black dress. So much for being just a private citizen again!

After everything that went down between Joey and and Ayiiia, we thought we might be saying goodbye to one of our Real Worlders. But we never thought that person might be Joey! Turns out, dude's far more interested in enjoying Spring Break (i.e. drinking, partying and bedding unsuspecting girls) than he is in actually chaperoning it. Watch as he rants and rails about getting in trouble with Student City, then hear what his old pal Ayiiia has to say 'bout this unexpected karmic development.
