In 2003, Lauren Conrad was a typical high schooler living in Laguna Beach, California. Now, she's a world famous TV star, fashion designer and New York Times best selling author. Yep, LC's first book, L.A. Candy, has topped the list two weeks in a row now, with no signs of slowing down. And no one's more surprised than Lauren herself.
The happily retired Hillzie told People.com that she never saw any of her success coming. "If someone said to me five years ago when this all started that I would one day make the New York Times Best Seller list, I wouldn't have believed it," Conrad gushed earlier today. "I am so honored that it is now a reality."
So how'd she become a modern-day Jane Austen? Well, the first-time author played it smart, striking while the iron was hot and writing about what she knew (her main character is a girl-next-door turned reality TV star!), ultimately leading to a three-book deal with a major publisher.
Anywho, you'll be psyched to know that Lauren's already working on book two of the series -- and based on the first one's success, she might be back on the best seller list before 2010! That is, if she ever actually leaves...
