Despite the lukewarm reception Debra got from her mother, she hasn't given up hope that one day she'll be able to help her. In the meantime, Debra is working hard to better herself. Since she graduated in April with her associates degree Debra has enrolled in a bachelors degree program. We'll let her tell you the rest...
Hey! Thanks for tuning into True Life: I'm Looking for My Mother on MTV. Three weeks after we shot the show, my mom called me asking if I could send her some money. I told her that I didn't have any, so she hung up. Regardless of all the sad moments during the show, I still can't wait to see her again.
As far as school is concerned, I'm currently attending University of Phoenix and working toward my bachelor degree. I'm also applying for scholarships to help me fund school next year. I'm working for Sacramento County through a Temp Agency. I was little nervous about my story being told in front of millions of people, but then I thought how maybe there's someone out there who lives a life similar to mine, or can just relate. None of us can change what happened to us as children, but we can control what will happen to us as adults. I hope my story is helpful to others.
