This week Trevor and Giana elaborate on the incredible pressure of deadline. As crazy as it looked on last night’s Paper episode, well, the drama can usually be traced back to one specific person…

He Said: Ah, yes, deadline. When it comes to deadline for me, I always just try to stay out of all the drama (which means just ignoring Adam). I usually spend the majority of deadline laying out my double truck (the center spread of the issue), fixing the infamous printer (that always needs fixing), or helping others out with laying out the pages.
This was the first deadline with our new jobs and it was, as you saw, one that looked very stressful. As drama-filled as it may have been, it all came back to one source: Adam. After overestimating how many pages we had to do, Adam freaked out. Cutting down our issue by four pages didn’t have to be that big of a deal. Hell, the job of determining how many pages we run each issue was not specifically left with the business manager… Adam gave himself that job. If it were up to me, we would have gone 32 pages from the start. Adam is one of my best friends, but it was just too much.
I would have love to seen Amanda step up during this first deadline, I really would have. Adam’s failures left a wide open opportunity for everyone, including myself, and Alex was the one to come through with some deadline magic, along with his trusty sidekick and sports editor, Reed. Again I stand correct in my previously made assertions regarding the leadership of the paper.
She Said: While you were all able to see our three-day deadline contrived into a mere 21 minutes, for those who have experienced it, you know it feels more like 21 days. The pressures and stress that go into staring into a dimly lit computer screen for three days and nights straight while trying to block out the 70 other students in the room scrambling around with their own problems can put almost anyone on edge.
This deadline was just like any other one. Adam has and always will be the loudest in the room and the one tries to take control over things that he doesn’t really have control over. After Adam finishes laying out the ads (which takes up about the first hour of deadline) he likes to find problems in the issue, whether or not they actually exist, and specifically likes to focus on my section. Adam is the one person that I will never be able to block out during deadline and since we’ve been close since middle school, I’m probably the only person who he allows to talk to him the way I do without him running out crying. I was always opposed to the 36-page issue and when my section was looking bad because Adam refused to stack ads I refused to let it go.
Amanda may have been able to prove her leadership during deadline had she finished her editorial on time. It’s happened to all of us at one point, when you get so behind on your stories because you spend so much time editing others’ stories. However, because of the turmoil in the class it was especially important for Amanda to step up, and since she couldn’t, the tensions within the classroom did not subside.
Nevertheless, whatever problems occur during deadline does not hurt the finishing product, and our first issue played a role in receiving an All-Florida award at the Florida Scholastic Press Association’s conference for the third year in a row.

are all of you blind?! give amanda the chance to step up?!! did u watch the last episode??!? she sat there with a look of disgust of her face as deadline was taking a wrong turn, she sat in the bathroom in the MIDDLE OF DEADLINE to work on a story that was already due and she had no idea how to PDF. Hey Trevor, I saw the article about your Israel adventure. How come that wasn’t on the show?
May 7th, 2008 at 6:01 pm
“I would have loved to see Amanda step up, I really would have.” For some reason I think that’s wrong, whenever I watched the show and I don’t know if it is edited this way it looks like no matter what Amanda does someone has a problem with it. Yes, it would have been nice to see Amanda take on her role as Editor-in-chief, but we all know that when it comes to leadership positions its basically a popularity contest. I’ve seen Trevor say point blank that he wouldn’t listen to Amanda if she had something to say, wouldn’t treat her like a leader, basically just blurt out that he hates her. Now I’m not a fan of Amanda, she’s got some annoying qualities, but she doesn’t deserve to be talked about or plotted against by all her peers or most of them.
Can you imagine how she must be feeling watching this show? How would you feel if you were in her position? As previously stated I am not an Amanda fan, but to be honest I’m not a fan of anyone on this show everyone seems to be a $**@*$# in someway, and I know that everyone has there faults, but this show just seems to bring out your faults to the extreme. Jealousy is a #*?#?!

Jeez, what are Giana and Trevor gonna do when they can’t blame Amanda for their own failures anymore?
Oh that’s right, find another scapegoat.

making a wii mii character in the visage of your editor in chief so you can punch it’s lights out? classy. that’s not obsessively weird.
giana, your writing is terrible. I have to read it two or three times to understand what you are saying. please stop writing.
May 8th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Why didn’t you just google how to PDF? Hahaha.
May 9th, 2008 at 11:59 am
Ha do you people ever write anything without blaming Amanda some how? i mean what the hell

Hi Trevor Hi Gianna, I just want to say that I love watching the paper!! I know that all of you still feel pretty bitter about Amanda being editor in Cheif, do you think that Mrs Weiss made the wrong decision? my opinion is that she should have picked Alex. Were you guys all friends all during high school?
May 10th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Well, to me, it seemed like if Amanda did try to step it up, someone would try to take it down for her either way. So I don’t know what you guys really want from her. =/
it’s just, everything went into turmoil, I wonder what you guys would do in her position? Yeah sure, no one knew how to do the PDF. At least, the old editor-in-chief came through, though it would be nice if you guys had some kind of paper listing what to do for the newspaper, even if you are veterans.

I realize that your teacher is there in more of an advisory role but she still doesn’t seem to be much of a help at all, and shouldn’t she be able to PDF as well as teach it to her students. Every shot of the classroom is one of bickering or chaos and your guys’s teacher just sits there, what gives???
May 11th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
ok..well i think amanda could have stepped it up more but no one would listen to her if she did. they all always just ignore her dont give her a chance to talk and turn around and start making fun of her and plans to make her look like the teacher picked the wrong person for Editor-in-Chief. i think amanda would be good at her job if people listened to her. amanda could have stepped it dup but it would have made NO difference!

“I would have love to seen Amanda step up…” Trevor, I don’t know you, but from what I’ve seen that’s the biggest lie I’ve ever heard. Chances are had Amanda stepped up you would have complained and bitched about her more. Maybe the show is edited so we’re tempted to side with Amanda more, but your group just seems like immature cold-hearted spoiled brats. I hope once you move onto college all of you will get over yourselves.
May 12th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
omg u both totally rock…ummm SIKE maybe if i was on drugs i’d meant that lol. gosh AGAIN u proved how bratty u guys really are and it’s always..”oh Amanda this..Amanda that” give everyone a freaking break.. gesshhh u people are just pathetic even if u do write well u sure don’t know how to act lol.

I think that both Trevor and Gianna are NOT over the fact that Amanda got Editor-in-chief and I so wish she would put both of you in your place. Trevor your just a douche bag and Gianna your just jealous. You both need go grow up because life isn’t always fair and your not always going to like who you work with, get over yourselves!!!!!!!!!! I also think the Managing Editor needs to just pick one side and stay with it instead of being a wolf in sheep’s clothing. When your with Amanda your for her, when your with the little crying, whiney “click” that sits on the back row your so talking about Amanda. I don’t think either one of you or your friends have any intention of giving Amanda any respect. All I ever hear Treavor calling her is a @*$~# with Gianna is always trying to interrupt her whenever she has anything to say. I applaude Amanda for putting up with all the %@#@ she has to from both of you and your friends. KEEP YOUR HEAD UP AMANDA, THEY’RE ALL JUST HATERS BY NATURE AND ARE EXTREMELY JEALOUS OF YOU AND YOUR POSITION!!!!!!!!!
May 12th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Holly couldn’t have said it better than you but I believe the same way. Those brats are so annoying it just makes me wanna kill them! literally ok not that far.. but yea. Giana i dont know if your just acting but gurl if thats gurl if i had you for class i would have already bruised your face so much you would have to get surgery. And make your life miserable cuz it aint fare for all you spiled bitches to treat amanda that way. And your boyfriend is ~%$#~$* $%*~#$% gay ass @@@$. He’s more dramatic than a gurl can b for real yall gotta get ur act together cuz both of you make me sick Alex u do have a mind of ur own so y dont u %$@@#@ use it man! Giana ur a Big %%*## 4 real!

So, needless to say, I think you guys are super mean. It was pretty messed up during the editors meeting when you guys completely lied through your teeth when Casia called you out about laughing at Amanda when she was speaking up for herself. I think that Amanda is a very self confident person, and she exhibits all the characteristics to be a good editor in-chief. There are always going to be people who try to step all over people who have gotten things that they want, and you two are perfect examples of it. I think it’s about time that you grow up and own up to your own faults.
And Giana, telling Alex that he has to chose a “side” to be friends with was WICKED lame.
