Kim from ‘Real World’ Responds to Hate Mail

In this corner, reigning from the Deep South, wearing the Pink Victoria’s Secret sweats… is Kimberly.

On last night’s episode of Real World XX: Hollywood, Kimberly tore into Brianna for being “ghetto” (minus the fabulous). Many of you have reacted strongly to their conflict. zsm said:

“i can’t believe people like Kim still exist. she’s ignorant and racist. kim, i hope u don’t get caught after dark in the most ‘innercity blackville.’”

And there was a lot more where that came from. So I did what any other nosy-ass blogger would do about the sitch — emailed Kim to ask for an explanation. And now it’s been broughten:

kim_brianna_split_400×200.jpg

“Let me start by trying to express my utmost appreciation for the overwhelming support and love I have received. I cannot possibly respond to all of the emails, but I do read them. Everything means so much to me, and it has served as such an encouragement.

The Real World is a social experiment. Seven VERY different people are put in a house from all different backgrounds and walks of life. The intro to the show, “To find out what happens when people stop being polite and start being real,” was written for a reason. Watching the show would be boring if everyone were the same or if everyone got along. I personally never had a problem getting along with people until I moved into that house.

Growing up in the South, one is taught to be polite and mannered. I was astonished at the behavior of some of my roommates. Does this mean their behavior was “wrong?” NO! This just means I was not raised the same way. Does this mean I went into the house being “judgmental?” YES! The point of the “experience” is to learn more about yourself, your roommates, and to develop an open mind and new ways of thinking. Unfortunately, you the viewers don’t get to see a lot of that because the show is edited for entertainment. That means that there will only be 1% of what was filmed shown on television.

Do I regret the things I said? No. This is because when one says they regret something, they wish it never happened. I personally am thankful I said those things because I was able to have my roommates explain to me that in other areas of the country it was unacceptable.

This brings me to all the lovely mail I have received…

First, let me say while I appreciate all of the grammatical errors and vocabulary that one would never find in Webster’s Dictionary, it is extremely ironic that authors of such emails are judging me based on preconceived stereotypes of a Southern girl. It is obvious that these people should have looked in the mirror long before they thought about judging me. As all of us know, that is not the way the world works, so we move on.

In conclusion, I hope that everyone finds it in their heart to stick with the show and see how all of the roommates grow individually as well as a whole. That said, I must warn you: it gets much worse before it gets better.”

Until next time, go green or go home,
Kimberly

  1. I was able to have my roommates explain to me that in other areas of the country it was unacceptable.

Um, I am white and live in Alabama (Heart of Dixie) and calling someone "ghetto" and referring to an inner-city neighborhood as "blackville" is unacceptable here, too. It always amazes me when white southerners behave as if they alone live in the south. Do you think the many African-Americans who live here (and have had family here for as long, or longer, than their white counterparts) are tourists?
  2. Kim, I believe that this was a good experience for you. I believe that you learned that what you say can and will affect your future....as well as the current status with your roommates. But your sarcasm...your dry humor...it is soooo not appropriate for this topic. seriously, "grammatical errors," that is just stupid and air-headed. You are on TV. Be real, but be SMART about what you say!

Oh! i almost forgot....the stereotype issue....

it is a fact that you are a Southern Girl, right? It is a fact that in the South, the "race issue" (past and present) still exists, right? So, i think it would only be fair to say that people that stereotype you as a southern girl with prehistoric "issues" about people that are different than you have just cause for it! I mean, you were taped on TV saying inner city...blah, blah, blah....blackville!!! i don't believe that you can bounce back from that and i definitely believe that you should make a better attempt to respond to the people, such as myself, that consider you a racist. Even if you don't feel as if you were wrong in your eyes, it would just be sooo big of you to apologize anyway...because you may have hurt some people's feelings from what you said.

racism is a disease...and the only way to cure it is from within.....
  3. Being "ghetto" is part of American slang. Only MTV with its liberal 20something theme (koombya) would have such an uproar about something petty like this (which is why this post will never appear). If this garnered such a reaction I can't imagine the response she would have gotten had she used the "n" word (which would have actually been inappropriate). The "g" word hardly carries such a history.

There are plenty of black people in the South so they must not have much of a problem living there.

My job requires that I speak on the phone w/people all over the U.S. and sometimes Europe and those from the South and the U.K. definitely have the most social graces.
  4. people keep saying all she said is ghetto. That is not all she said! look at all of the clips she says things like do pheonix girls date black guys? and would they cut you out of the will? and many more! so stop saying all she said was ghetto
  5. So according to your logic kim I should call you "trailer park" girl from "hicksville" for you lack of class that you displayed. Yes Bri didn't handle it well but here you go running out there almost looking for a fight. Then as you open rant and yell you have the nerve to call Bri "ghetto". Seems to me that both of you got heated but you kim toke to a different level way too quickly. You come accross as a judgemental, prejudice person who lacks worldly knowledge. Kim you seriously need to GROW UP and get out of your "hicksville" bubble. (only use that term because apparently its alright to use such language) But dispite your racial rants it really doesn't surprise me. There are a lot of people like you in this country who normally use this type of racial language behind our backs. Kim its time for you to move forward in your thinking of races you don't know or be left behind. And get some class.
  6. I think Kim is the most IGNORANT person I have seen on the Real World. You can't call someone ghetto because they aren't acting "like you", which basically means acting white. I can honestly say that you disgust me, and the fact that you think that everything you said was ok, just lets me think that you "well-mannered" scheme just means that you are allowed to be a judgemental person and believe you are better than other people. Once a black person gets loud its ghetto, but when you got loud it was termed what? Ii doubt you would call it ghetto, because I bet you think that word doesn't apply to you. You were presented as a really horrible person on that episode, and your letter just shows that you really don't care. I hope you lost all of your urban fans. But of course we all may be too ghetto for you anyway.
  7. Kim, I am white from a very affluent area and even I think that was a rude racist remark. People can be "real" and still be resepctful. I"m disappointed in your comments and the fact that youo keep making excuses for them. Every time we are on that show one of us prove that some of us are just as ignorant as we were years ago. Please seek help...
  8. I did not appreciate the comments that Kimberly made regarding "ghetto" and "blackville." I believe that she definitely needs to take some time and take a long look at herself. She definitely needs to change her outlook on life if she expects to be successful in this world! I believe that she will have a difficult time out in the "real world" following the episodes that air on MTV because people do view her as a racist. My mouth dropped after hearing her remarks, and I couldn't believe that those words actually came out of her mouth. Honestly, Bri is a better woman than me because the reply probably wouldn't have been the same. This is coming from an educated, black woman from the "blackville" area that you depicted, but now in a doctorate program. So, may I ask what is your outlook on "blackville" now? Kimberly?? Smooches to "blackville"......
  9. Mess.... that is all do better please......
  10. I am not the type to comment on the internet like this but your behavior has made me feel it is very necessary. First of all, you said you made those comments while you were drunk. Well most of the time, people's true feelings come out when they are drunk so you must really do feel that way about Brianna. What upset me the most was not that you called her ghetto when she was clearly just talking to you in a civilized manner and not raising her voice or anything, but it was the fact that you were judging her when you were supposed to be her friend. Although you do not agree with how she treats herself, you act as thought you are her friend and care about her in her face but when an argument comes about you want to use it against her. I feel that was very immature. And when you did make the "ghetto" comment, she was actually talking to you like she was not upset with you, but you came out and started yelling first. So if you want to say someone started to act ghetto, then you can say that you were the "ghetto" person in the situation. You told her to act normal when she was so my question to you is what is your definition of normal? Is normal the "white" way? When you went back and discussed the situation with Sarah, you made a comment about Brianna being in the "inner-most blackville". That comment made me decide to write you. That is when my perception of you changed from being nice friend to a racist white woman. You disrespected Brianna's ethnic background behind her back when you are supposed to be her friend. The comment was very ignorant and racist. That is why Sarah told you to watch what you say because that is where you stepped out of line and you were on national television with many African American viewers. I believe that deep inside you do see yourself better than African American and I am very sorry you are that way. I am glad you have learned from this situation and now know when and when not to let your true colors show.
  11. Polite and well mannered?? You were far from that and I hope you made your family and freinds very proud after watching that episode. You obviously have a lot of growing up to do and I hope as I continue to watch this show I can see you do that. Although after reading your so VERY heartfelt apology I'm having my doubts. The sad truth to it all is you're more than likely too ignorant to change but we can all hope for the best. In order to become a journalist, I believe it would be in your best interest to change your way of thinking or else you should consider another career. Bri may be a stripper, but so far I have more respect for her than I do for you.
  12. Wow! When was the show taped? I thought Kim said it would get better. If her so-called apology was posted today, she really did not learn anything. Before she made her comments on the show, she obviously had a lower opinion of African Americans. To think that she watches MTV which is suppose to be forward thinnking and on the forefront of tolerance and divesity, she could have learned something from even watching MTV. This girl has no intension of fully realizing that people who are different from her deserve the same respect as her. What can I say, Kim is going to be Kim. Good luck in Hollywood girl! I heard they are very tolerant out there. Maybe they will accept even you.
  13. I thought long and hard about commenting on this blog, as I personally question the relevancy of having a mob mentality against someone, but I have to say in all honesty, what you said was just plain ignorant. As a black man who happens to be college educated, among many other accomplishments, I truly feel how you equated being black with being poor and dumb is in fact a racist comment. I did catch the off-color comments bri made and she wasn't justified in doing so, but it seemed she did it as a result of provocation, whereas you just seem to constantly do it....unprovoked. I only comment because my girlfriend happens to be white, and I don't think I've ever seen her so mad over something on the tv. I hope you find the courage to change your ways eventually, because as of now, you really are a detriment to a society trying to get past this issue. I personally find your condescending, unapologetic, elitist attitude toward your incessant ignorance to be really indicative of how out of touch you are.
  14. Well girl, you have learned your lesson to control what is coming out of your mouth, clear for everyone, hopefully including you. But hey people, you stop blowing things out of proportions. "ghetto" word is used ever day in our vocabulary and can be used as a reference to no matter what race. And it doesn't mean that one of the African descent should take that as an insult anymore, grow over your slavery mentality! We are in 2008, Gosh! You girl, stay cool, I think you are an intelligent chick and will make it to your goal. Don't let people discourage you, just learn to control your emotions. I know it's hard. And hey, every one of you have had a moment of being drunk and stupid and have said something that came out bad. So yes, mirror, mirror... It is a reality show! Get real people!
  15. I was offended by Kim's comments, from saying she can't believe Will's nice even though he's from Detroit and that Bri is ghetto and from "Blackville". I think it's partly our fault as Americans that we don't get more outraged about statements like these. We just say, "ohh, she's young and ignorant and from a small town and doesn't know any better." But, will her views ever change and will we ever say no more?
Last year, when I was living in Europe a young woman named Jade Goody made similar ignorant racial statements on England's Celebrity Big Brother show about Shilpa Shetti, a Bollywood actress from India. In India, there were protests and they burnt images of Jade. In the UK, a half a million people wrote the TV station and boycotted her products, her life in the UK was ruined all because of what she said and the way she acted on the show. Words have power. People didn't stand for those type of ignorant racial statements in the UK and around the world, the story was International news for weeks, here it's a poll on the MTV website and the subject of a message board.
  16. Wow... I was lying and bed watching the Real World and I literally rose up in disbelief. I wished I could hear the response from your roommates aftering 'Blackville' i guess I have to wait for the After Show. I actually thought Brianna was calm and she was far from what people stereotype as "acting Ghetto"...u seemed to be "acting Ghetto".
  17. Ghetto: : a quarter of a city in which Jews were formerly required to live

This definition is directly quoted from the Merriam-Webster dictionary. Now, the majority of us know that the term "ghetto" is used interchangeably in our English vocabulary now-a-days. However, it is not appropriate for someone to use the word in a form of a put down. On the show, it was a put down. It showed ignorance.
  18. You are super racist Kim. I was shocked at the "ghetto" comment but Blackville? That just lost any ounce of respect I had for you as I'm sure it did for a lot of people whether they're black, white,Latin or Asian. I don't think you've learned because you still have the "better than thou" attitude in your letter! I can deal with the occasional joke or two but ghetto and "blackville" are where I think EVERYBODY draws the line. And I might add, where you were raised has almost nothing to do with it but it just proves you weren't thinking about breaking stereotypes when you said your slurs. Sure you can blame it on the south but honestly if somebody from friggin Alaska said it I'm sure we lose the same amount of respect. But I lost the most respect because, from what I saw of course on TV :), I thought you were different and open to all types of people and not just another racist.
  19. I was personally offend by the your "ghetto" comment. You should never relate “ghetto” to “blackness”. In that moment, you were out of line then. At this moment, you are still out of line. You don’t have the right to call someone of their name and then move that over to someone ethnic community. You are a disgusting human being. I wish I could slap the spit of your mouth.
  20. THE GHETTO COMMENT WAS CALLED-FOR

    SHE WAS ACTING VERY GHETTO-LIKE.

BY THE WAY GHETTO MEANS NEIGHBORHOOD IN ITS ORIGINAL ITALIAN MEANING.

SHE WAS BEING GHETTO, SO GET OVER IT!
  21. You are indeed an ignorant person. You claim to just be of a different background than the other housemates, but that does not excuse your comments. The things you said were abhorrant and disgusting to any person from any part of any country. What exactly is blackville? I would love for you to explain this to me. I was offended by this, and you should have been kicked off of the show for saying what you said.
  22. I actually wasn't going to comment on this, but the more I watch the episode the more I feel the need to speak on the topic...

Anyone who thinks that what Kim said is acceptable is crazy. Yes, there are bigger problems in the world, but that doesn't mean that smaller issues should get swept under the rug. Often times, when people do something that is oppressing to others, they like to pretend it never happened. That's what has happened with A LOT of injustice that has happened in the world. Further more, the fact that Bri called herself "ghetto" doesn't justify anyone else calling her that. If I call myself a *$$$*, can Kim call me one and it all of a sudden not be racist? NO... so that actually has nothing to so with the fact that she said that. Then for her to go off into a racial rampant is even more disturbing. In no way, shape, or form what Kim said acceptable...

I like to draw attention to the first episode when she mentioned how Detroit could produce someone so wholesome and well mannered because all she has known it for is violence... I saw from the begging that she was ignorant and racist.

We all make mistakes Kim. I have always been in predominantly Caucasian privet schools and I to have made mistakes, but for you to try and play the situation off as something that you are going to learn from, yet you can't even apologize for the fact that you said it? grow up and take responsibility for your mistakes so that you can learn from it because so far, the only thing that you have learned, it how to take criticism!

-YET ANOTHER educated [[open minded]] AFRICAN American
  23. And by the way, if "neighborhood" is the definition of ghetto, how can you use that to describe someone? And I don't understand how it was called for because if I recall correctly, Kim started yelling and getting loud with Bri first when she decided to come outside where Bri was talking to her friends.
  24. I'm appalled at some of the responses I've seen on here. The problem these days is that many people are so close-minded as to the subject of racism. No matter how many excuses you give or how much you fight it, racism will always be there. In my opinion, Kim had no wrongdoing in speaking her mind and saying exactly how she felt. Where I'm from, (you could probably call it "ghetto") and many other places, the term "ghetto" is used most of the time referring to where you come from. For me, It's thoroughly how you were raised and what kind of people you were surrounded by. With this whole incident, Kim never spoke down about any African-Americans or their intelligence and people are taking it too far with some of the replies that's been posted. For example saying you hope she gets caught in "blackville". What justice does that do? I think the woman just used her right and spoke what she felt. Same as Kim creating a dispute and Bri calling her a "cracker" or any other white racial slur. Don't get me wrong; some things said were not entirely appropriate and nothing excuses it. For the most part I believe It's nothing but racism going public. But then again, It's just a TV show for entertainment.
  25. Let me start out by saying that the way you approached the situation was offensive to begin with, you automatically linked the color of someones skin to a behavior you term as being "ghetto". Please define the term before throwing it around and I mean the true definition of ghetto. Another thing because you didn't find what you did wrong, you just proved to all of us that you are a closet racist. Yes that's someone who is racist behind closed doors and don't want to admit to the behavior. you even prejudged the emails you received with grammatical errors were from a certain individuals from a certain skin tone. I saw right through your BS, as well as many others.
Good luck to you in the future, I just want to let you know that you've tainted your future aspect by your personal color issues.
  26. So I am appalled by how many one liners people missed with what Kim has been saying from day one. The very first episode when she met Will she said "I always thought of Detroit as a bad place so I'm surprised such a cute guy came from there". I knew from then you were this ignorant lady that thinks her opinions and life decisions should be doctrine. Also you should not have even wrote this response because its a bunch of bull. I don't care if you grew up in the most klansville town you know you're on t.v. and you know what your saying is rude and condescending. You have made a number of comments that you even asked the camera to erase so you would think that you would learn to watch what you say. Lesser things have been said by higher up people on T.V. and it's ruined their career so I hope that this faux pas has done the same to yours. enjoy your 15 seconds of fame and your few episodes of gauntlet where I hope coral wups that *ss.
  27. I usually do not respond to things like this. I do enjoy watching the Real World and MTV. However I just watched this episode and it made my skin crawl. It made me want to change the channel and stop watching the show. Its not the fact that she said ghetto. I have heard several white people ingorantly use the term ghetto because they do not know any better and hear other black people saying it. However, she repeatedly said "lets not get ghetto, calm down, act normal" whats normal? is "white" normal? And THEN she preceeded to say "inner city blackville" where is that because I have never heard of that or visited that place? Her lame excuse for an apology or to try and cover up what she did was not affective. I feel the real world is a culturally diverse show bringing people from different backgrounds together. But it does not mean there has to be a redneck like her on the show. I know there are several people like her that exist in the world today and she is not the only one, in her defense. But I think it is a shame for us to have to deal with it in the so called "real world" and have to watch it on television as well. I do pray for her ignorance and hope she learns something from this experience.
  28. you didnt even really answer the question...
  29. I just want to say it is great that there are shows like real world which allow us to see different people from different walks of life interact. In the actual real world these same stereotypes and these same judgmental out lashes and fights do occur. To her defense Kim’s ignorant thoughts about being ghetto, inner cities, and strippers are just that ignorant. This does not mean that she is a terrible person it just means that this is what she was taught and this is what she knows. A person is a large part of what they were taught and the environment they grew up in. It is easier to understand someone’s walk of life when you have witnesses it yourself. For Kim what she knows about inner cities and “blackville” is what others have only told and taught her. Yet this does not make it ok. Racism still exists and judgmental (usually angry defensive) comments are still made because this old way of thinking is still passed on through generations. I feel people like Kim need to question why they feel they belittle people before they accept it is right. If it’s just something you think is right because your community, your pastor, your parents say so question it. Maybe you should really step in someone’s shoes before judging them. Do you believe people choose to live in poverty? People are proud of ghettos? Yes people are proud in the sense where they feel they made it through such a tough way of life, and they have reason to be. Also do you believe people strip for fun? Many people don’t do it because they don’t respect themselves but because it is a tax free night job that pays the bills. It’s easy to say find another job when you are not faces with the same struggles of having a family, needing cash, not having the time. To use “go dance on your pole” as a comeback is just fighting dirty. To dirty and I found it extremely offensive. It’s very easy to say fix something when you don’t understand someone’s struggle. It’s very easy to say change when you’re not the one who has to change. Yet it takes a way bigger person to try to understand why someone is the way they are and why they do the things they do and respect it.
  30. For the most part, we African-Americans use the term ghetto as a noun to describe a certain area from which some of us come. Keep in mind that more than just black people can come from here. But it is offensive when you start to use ghetto as an adjective to describe the actions of a certain person. Bri was simply responding to you, Kim, and how you came at her. In fact, she was keeping herself really calm, even through the point where you said "Let's not get ghetto." She politely asked what you meant by that statement, which I applaude her on because your statement warranted more of a reaction than what she gave you. It seemed more like a personal attack because of the way you kept saying it to her and also when you added her occupation in the mix of your attacks.
Moreso, the thing that got me was "inner city blackville." Are you kidding me? You just offended so many more people than just Bri when you said that.
So if I start telling people how I feel and even get loud and curse, I'm acting ghetto? Do Caucasians not get loud and curse sometimes?
  31. I can't stand Kim, she is a disgrace to AMERICA!!! Trying to epitomize someones grammatical errors to make herself feel better is childish and demeaning to her character. If anyone supports her its because they are as desperate as she is. She made the situation blow-up to something that was uncalled for. Being raised in the south is a sorry excuse for her actions. If anything that experience should have put her in church and made her realize her morals as a person. Also, who is she to tell anyone if they have manners or are being policte when she was the one who couldn't respect her roommate and then made a big scene out of it. She blows up in Brianna's face and then says lets be calm and not be ghetto. Brianna was giving her what she gave Brianna. Kim is definitely not higher on any kind of list(race, social, class) than Brianna. By science they are more than 99% alike so she needs to act like it. So to Kim: "Don't get it twisted. Your fake and discourteous attitude need to be dropped. Your dreams are so twisted. Your famous is like a Lisa Nowak(crazy astronaut girlfriend)famous. Instead of being allowed to become famous for the good in you, you have became famous for your stupidity and ignorance. Have a blessed day."
  32. i want u to explain what u meant by BLACKVILLE
  33. This has nothing to do with the race card, does anyone know what kind of shirt Pretty Boy has been wearing, the blue shirt with what looks like a pigeon/bird with a leaf in the mouth?

    Thanks
  34. Kim,

Why did you even purport to apologize? Your so-called apology is just a thinly-veiled excuse to continue to judge and look down on others? Stop making excuses for your behavior and own the fact that you were offensive. You made racist comments on the show, whether you want to believe it or not. Maybe you don't think that you are racist, but your subjective belief is irrelevant in this situation. If people of color around you are offended by what you said, you should rethink about the appropriateness of those comments. Growing up in the south is no excuse. Moreover, making racist comments is not unacceptable only in areas outside the South. It is unacceptable PERIOD.

Furthermore, just because people have written you emails containing grammatical errors and misspellings doesn't make you any better than them! Good education is not a free pass to be judgmental or feel superior (and I question how well-educated you are...being able to Webster's dictionary is hardly a feat); it's a privilege that not everybody has.
  35. Kim, I think that you are very ignorant, and the only person during that argument that was OUT OF LINE, getting "GETTO" WAS YOU. If I was Bianna I would be going home, because I would have kick your ass and some. It goes to show that Bi is their to change her life and be the bigger person and not get GETTO like you dumb $%~%~. Sarah have a bit more sense she realize right that you were being an DUMB ASS, WHEN SHE TOLD YOU TO WATCH WHAT YOU SAY. Oh my gosh would someone like PLEASE get you a speech therapist, DO YOU HEAR YOURSELF. Everyone speak more proper, get help on you accent please. SO ANNOYING!!!! YALL HAVE FUN, YA H'ER, PLEASE! FAKE $%~%~, MEET ME IN BLACKVILLE.
  36. BRI MIGHT BE A STRIPPER BUT SHE SHOW MORE CLASS, SHE RESTRAINED HERSELF MORE THAN I WOULD HAVE. I AM STILL UPSET AND DID THINK U OK IN THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES NOW YOUR TRUE COLOURS SHOW. I AM MIXED I HAVE BOTH WHITE & BLACK FAMILY, WE USED BLACK AND WHITE JOKE ALL THE TIME. KIM YOU WERE NOT JOKING YOU SHOWING YOUR TRUE COLOURS, THE WAY YOU JUMP UP CAME OUTSIDE, 'GETTO'. YOU HAVE NOTHING ON BRI . I WAS SURPRISE WHEN MY BOSS SAID HOW STRONGLY YOU UPSET HER, SHE REMEMBER ALL THE RACIAL COMMENTS. I HAD MISSED A FEW UNTIL I WATCH THE SHOW AGAIN TODAY. CAN YOU GUESS SHE IS WHITE, YOU ARE SO APPALLING!
  37. I live in Georgia. I work with fake racist white females everyday. I like it when you show me who you are. I know how to seperate my self from you. Life is to short of trying to prove myself to ignorant racist people. I dont like it when I come home and turn on my tv, after dealing with people like Kim. Home is the one place I should not have to deal with racism. Therefore I will no longer be viewing real world this season
  38. We are all ignorant sometimes. We try to learn and live and try to get along. Geeesh..people are so defensive and easily offended.
  39. I'm not Afican American or even American. I am from Brazil and I have been living here for 2 yrs and a few months..I am taking my MA in education, and "racism" was the topic of this week in one of my classes. I love the RW and I had to bring this subject up...It was awesome, I think we spent almost 1 hour talking about it, and 100% of my mates were against Kim (how can someone agree with that at all?). It is f**** sad to see that someone her age, during 2008 still think that way. I feel really sorry for her, her future and her family. And I think MTV is completely right to air that moment so people can think about it and change their point of view if they are as pathetic as Kim. (START BEING POLITE AND START GETTING REAL!!!!)
  40. I watch this show and a lot of others like it. So this is what it's like to hate someone. Just call them a racist and whatever because they made a mistake. How often do you hear about drunk people getting into a fight? Fights don't start because of nice things said. It takes two people to create a problem. It's not fair to be judgemental of others mistakes. A down to earth person would not use physical threats to be the best person that they can be. So being violent is ok but being ignorant isn't? I feel both Bri and Kim are wrong but both made mistakes. I'm not seeing any I hate Bri comments. Not all people get along. Some personalities clash. That's what is real.
  41. ALSO BRI GREW UP WITH WHITE PEOPLE AND HANGS WITH WHITE PEOPLE AND THINKS SHE WHITE. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE KKKIM AROUND SOMEONE PEOPLE WOULD REALLY CONSIDER "GHETTO".
  42. I don't buy Kim's story at all. She knows what she said was dead wrong. How dare you put a race of people into a negative category. That is unacceptable. Don't you know you have Caucasians, Hispanics, Asians, etc., that live in your so-called "Blackville" that probably act more "ghetto" than Brianna? Yeah, I would stick to my story if I was Kim too, because I'd be hella embarassed to admit I was WRONG.
  43. I was very shocked by the statements you made. Many of the people who have posted a reply have said it clearly. You were judgmental and ignorant and your comments just proved that discrimination and racism will never completely disappear from this country. For all the people who are posting a reply saying how it isn’t a big deal, it is a big deal. I am not only speaking about discrimination toward African Americans, I am speaking of discrimination of all minorities and ignorant comments to all races including some racist comments towards Caucasians. It is not so much about the race you are, it is about the mentality you have. We live in a country that is very diverse and a time in which discriminating against anyone is wrong on many levels. The people who are still making these comments obviously have a slower mentality and are still living in the sad times of the past. People need to grow up and educate themselves and I am not speaking of school education, it is common sense intelligence that you do not say a hurtful thing to or about another person about their race.
  44. "Ghetto".....
    "Blackville"....

I hope you NEVER decide to go into politics, or marry someone who is a politician.

Those comments are going to haunt you for the rest of your natural born life.
  45. A lot of the comments I read regarding Kim's statement are extremely insightful and encouraging, especially Jessica's :-). It's refreshing to know that people realize that Kim's ignorant behavior is unacceptable. This was not the first comment she made which revealed her blatant stupidity and judgmental character. Her response to the bloggers was far from apologetic, and definitely defensive. It shows that she CHOSE not to learn anything. And although her comment may represent some people in the "real world", there are others who appreciate diversity and educate themselves. Kim, LEARN and actually try to grow.

    Signed,
An African American born to Jamaican parents.

    P.S.
I am educated and do not reside in the ghetto.
  46. Hi I just like to say first off, I am a black professional female and I was born and raised in south carolina and still live here and trust me there are alot of ignorant people here. I was actually embarrassed by that statement that was made about Bri. I feel like no one should be judged for wherever that person came from or have been through or whatever occupation that they have. My family instilled in me about being judgemental and I am so very glad they did. Most times as black people we have to do what we need to do to get by, because most people are afraid to help a black person out, illegal immigrants will get better help before a black person will, Im sorry but I beleive it will always be that way. I mean MOST white people will always have the things in there lives somewhat a little easier and MOST white people have it just as bad as some black people. but at the same time we as black people have to want better for ourselves and I mean really push ourselves to the next limit, and be positive about situations that one will face being good or bad. But before I go we have to take a look at her parents for not teaching little miss KIM the respect for different walks of life. I mean just because a person is black doesnt meant that they are ghetto.
  47. I think Kim doesn't feel bad about anything she said and futhermore does not understand where that word is rooted from. I am an African American and where I come from is the ghetto and quite frankly I proud of that because it shaped me into who I am now. For her to say "lets not act ghetto", is ignorant of her and to say "inner city blackville". Does she not understand how many people she offended by that?
  48. Kim,

First of all why did you use the term "ghetto" on Brianna. She did not in anyway get ghetto, she was just trying to get her career started. Yes you are racist, don't deny it, also you and sara are backstabbers. You talk behind Bri so much you guys should be ashamed. Sara please take note DO NOT HANG OUT OR SPEAK WITH KIM NO MORE. I tell you this because it looks like ur becoming racist. Kim what if we got into an argument and all of a sudden I say, "ok Kim lets not get southern." Would you like that no.
  49. this one instance shows how there are narrow minded people in this world still. it is really ashame that this still goes on. she needs to get from the box that she is livin in and experience the world. it is clear that she is racist with all of the comments that she has made. "Blackville"??? what is that? how do u expect to be in the reporting industry when you seem to have not been exposed to black people? what will you do when you have to interview a black person? will you ask them racist questions or will you start off by asking them if they are from the "ghetto"? i have no hatred against you, i just feel for you because of how excluded you are from the "real world". its sad that ur statements have been caught on camera, but whats really sad is the stuff that you probably say off camera. i hope that from watchin urself say these "in the closet" racist statements, u realize how embarassing it is and try to atleast change ur ways from your experience on the show.
  50. As someone who has been in the media industry for quite some time, I can say Kim will likely have a difficult time finding employment with E! or any other media outlet because she's damaged goods and basically showed her ass on national television with that "ghetto" comment. She may not be sorry now, but she definitely will be when no network will even offer her a gopher position.

That said, the most disturbing thing to me is Kim doesn't appear contrite, or seem willing to understand why so many people are offended when she said "let's not get ghetto." She assumed Bri was ghetto just because she's black and that's a stereotype and that's wrong. It's like us assuming she's racist just because she's from the south. But in her case, that stereotype turns out to be true.

This trashy girl went on to talk about an imaginery place called "Blacksville," which exposed her racist views to the world, in case anyone had any doubt. Her parents should be ashamed of themselves for raising such an ignorant idiot. If Bri was white, I seriously doubt Kim would have said "ghetto," and by using that word, she turned it a racial issue. She should have said, "Calm down," or "Let cooler heads prevail."

In my opinion, she's the one who acted ghetto and brought shame and embarassment to her entire community. It will be interesting to see what happens on the reunion show. Hopefully, they'll rip her a new one!
