Sick Holidays

After the cameras stopped rolling for this week, I jumped on a plane to Hawaii for a quick vacation. So, you’re getting this from the airplane while I’m coming home. Christmastime is one of my favorite times of the year, especially since it’s so close to my birthday! And this year was extra cool since I”ll be turning 18. But this year Christmas was just so sick because my mom was way excited this year. When I said that our place looked like Christmas, I was not kidding. All the lights my mom puts up on the house (with a little help from my grandpa), plus the huge tree in the living room with all the decorations makes the house look dope. She even has this toy train on railroad tracks running around in a circle on the floor with all the presents and stuff there. Kane likes playing with that one. Our tree and basically the whole house looks like something you’d see in a Bloomingdale’s catalogue. Everything was decorated and the mood around the house was way different from last year when nobody even felt like celebrating.

I wish there was more time for you to see the rest of the party. It was so much fun! My mom cooked almost everything. The house smelled so good all day. You guys all already know that my mom is a great cook and how I’m a huge fan of her taco nights, so you can only imagine how good this food was as well.

When my mom first mentioned doing some kind of gift exchange for the party, I thought, no chance! Kayla was helping my mom plan things and wanted to do a Secret Santa, but then mom threw out the “white elephant” thing and I just kinda went along because she swore that it was the best thing ever. I didn’t really get how it worked when Mom described it (it was really confusing and at one point Kane said “let’s get this show on the road!”), but once we actually started playing, it was pretty funny. The rules were the gift had to be under $25 bucks and we were supposed to get these gag gifts. Then you put all these gifts into a pile, draw numbers, and pick gifts in number order. You open the gift and everybody sees what it is and then, like, the next person can either “steal” your gift or pick a fresh one from the pile. It goes on and on and then everybody ends up with something. One person got a robotic dog that humps your leg. I bought these dumb things like an extra large remote control and that football helmet that has straws you can drink from that Mom’s boyfriend, Bruce, opened up. Out of that whole pile of gifts from like 20 people, it figures that the first thing I pick up is a photo from Shane signed “thanks for the support.” On top of it being hilarious, I was kinda mad I didn’t think of it first.

Oh, and on a side not, did you notice that Tony brought a girl to the party? Not just any girl, but his girlfriend. I can’t remember the last time Tony had a girlfriend. It was cool to see him so happy with her. She’s cool and seems like a good fit for him. Speaking of girls, this week was intense and Kayla was totally cool with listening to me vent about everything that was going on. It’s cool to have someone sick like that who will just listen, even though she admits she doesn’t fully “get it” since her parents are still together. Between having this party at the house, not being able to invite my dad, hearing Dad’s side about the court case, and then that gnarly blowup with my mom…this was one of those weeks where everything was hitting the fan at the same time. Just kinda how my life goes, I guess. I’m grateful that my mom saw our argument as something that needed to happen and that me blurting out what I did was healthy. I realize it wasn’t me that caused them to get divorced. They had their own problems that were beyond anything that was going on with me. Yeah, it was an ugly fight, but getting that thought out of my head ended up making things with my dad a whole lot easier too. We had the best time out on the golf course playing a quick round. That day was awesome and now I want all of our time together to be – just chill. When there’s no stress like that, I get really hopeful that someday soon we’ll all be able to hang out together again.

    Hi Ryan,
I’m a mom of a nine year old and have really enjoyed watching your show to possibly gain an insight into some of the issues my son might have to face in a few years. Even though your life is completely different then ours as a teen you share the same struggles that many kids have to go through, and you are a great example for them to follow. I know your parents have to be extremely proud of what a kind-hearted young man you have become. Thank you for putting a positive image of young people on TV and I hope that my son is as caring and well rounded as you when he grows up.
Good luck with all that you do.

    Hey Ryan,
I’m really enjoying your show this season. You are so good to your friends, your family and everybody else. I love that you’re so goal oriented and family oriented. I though it was so cool to see you talk to and help the girl who is fighting cancer, I could tell she really needed it. You’re going to be an amazing inspiration for kids around the world. Keep up the good work. Good Luck with life!

first off i would like to say that i have nothing against ryan, or what he does. However, this show is a waiste of my time and everyone else in America. He is a very talented young man, but doesnt need this tv show. Every episode includes : a fight with his father, mother, and him complaining on how hard it is to have a relationship. This show isnt interestinganymore, please stop showing this show!

    Hey Ryan!

My name is Stephanie and i live in the Netherlands. I watch your show every Saturday and I love it! You’re so great with your 2 brothers and I think your friends are awesome too!
About all your girls problems: I just read that you’ve got a girlfriend. That’s great! You said in season 1 that you’re sick of all the girls that don’t trust you and can’t deal with you always travelling for your job. I hope that Kayla isn’t that girl.

In Holland season 1 just ended and I loved it. Can’t wait for season 2.

Good luck with the tours and competitions.
And just know you’ve fans all over the world! Even in this little country over sea!

    Much love from Holland,

    Stephanie

  18. unknown Says:

hey ryan, i think its pretty sick the way you express your thoughts, and problems with everyone. Your show is one of my favorites because even though your on TV, your life and your problems are so similar to so many others. I think its good that you have the ability to realize your problems, and you sit down and think how to fix them, thats a great trait to have! I hope everything with Kayla goes well, she is beautiful. I will say a prayer for you that all of your problems get worked out and everything goes well :)

much love to you and your family

  21. Amanda Says:

    Ryan,
I just watched your christmas showing. I as well as many teens have gone through a ruff sticky divorce and it’s not easy. I just wanted to let you know that I also went through it when I was 14 and i’m 20 now. It’s not easy being the oldest becuase you seem to get in the middle. I was there too. I know it may seem like you want things to be normal again, but who has a normal family anymore. Your struggles with your parents make me remember the time I went through that. things are still shady with my parents and they just went back to court, but just know your not the only one going through it and it will work out soon. Good luck

  22. Mandy H. Says:

Hey Ryan, Just wanted to say I have alot of respect for you, I’m not sure if its you that read these or your editors but helping your brothers grow up and parents make it through a divorce. Much Love I’ll keep watching the show.

  23. kimberly Says:

HI! I am from a divorced family and sometimes dealing with all of the issues that come along with that is overwhelming. My parents divorced when I was four, and now I am in my twenties. Things are so much easier now, especially since I have a wonderful husband and two year old son. Although life is much easier now, I totally remember the days and years that were much harder. My parents hated each other, and they would share all of their hatred for each other with me. Uhh! I didn’t want to hear that! I was just a kid that wanted to love both of my parents! I say all of this to let you know that life gets easier, what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger, and one day you will have family of your own, and you will definitely have a say in the togetherness of that family. Good luck in all of your endeavors!

  24. Jared Says:

hey man just wanted to say that i think you’re doing a good job dealing with your parents divorce. i went through it with my parents about 6 years ago and i thought that my life was over. im now 19 and after going through that i can honestly say that things change and it will all work itself out in time for the better. so hang in there man. oh and keep up the skating man. you have a sick talent for it. if you ever pass through missouri dont hesitate to hit up columbia, cuz we got some stiff competition over here. ha later man

  25. Charly Says:

First things first i am a girl haha..but i just wanted to let you know theres a lot of people out there that have to go through divorce..me being one of them..i mean when my parents finally split and actually moved out..it was the hardest thing ever…but they dated off and on, and things just didnt work out…its for the better and were all close now so i have faith that your fam. will be kickn it:]
i hope all is well ttyl:]

    ryan-
im not here to tell you how hott you are or to tell you that im madly in love with you like all these other girls.yeah i think your awsome and your a great person and your hott but im not all over you because honestly your going thrigh alot and you need your space.i dont know whats really going on behind the cameras or what not but what i do know is that its not your fault why your parents got devorcied.i remember you had said the devorce all started because you and your father had got got into an argument, but i have to agree with your mom. its not your fault aqnd you cant take the guilt. its know ones faukt it was just meant to happen. your probally thinking tht i dont know what your going thrigh, which your partly right i dont know all the details of whats going and its personaly not my bussiness nor any one elses but i do know how bad hurts when parents get devorcied..i think that your handling it pretty good i just dont want you to take the blame..just remeber if you ever need someone to talk to you can always email me ok..much love and i hope everything gets better.

    love rachelle

  28. brooke Says:

    hey ryan;
you’re a very awesome person, and you’re also a sweetheart.
i don’t know what is happening behind the cameras, but from what i do know that it’s not your fault at all, but i know what you feel.
i hope that everything turns out good.
oh&+by the way i’m pretty sure i’m buying the “i love sheckler” sweatshirt and the “ryan’s future girlfriend” tee.” :)

you’ve made a very good impression on my life this year ! you are the best man

  32. Nabyl Says:

    Hey Ryan,
i know what you are feeling and going through at this time with your parents. my parents aren’t divorced but they have come close. i also have 2 younger brothers and i feel like i am the one stuck in the middle of things between my parents. i know its hard to get out of situations but hang in there and talk to your friends about it they will help and understand you. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

  33. Lauren Says:

    Hey Ryan-
I think it’s awesome that you’re letting people see you go through your parents’ divorce. The whole situation reminds me a lot of what I went through with my parents. It’s such a hard situation and I can’t imagine going through it with cameras in my face, but it definitely helps out the rest of us going through the same thing to see you.
I think it’s definitely hardest on the oldest child, because your parents want to talk to you about it. I totally agree with you that I just don’t want to hear about it. I really like how you made packs with your parents not to talk about it, I wish I had thought of that.
Things will be different, and change is hard, but you’re right that it’s important to make new traditions. The holidays can be particularly hard because splitting yourself in two isn’t possible, but once you come up with those new traditions it makes it easier.
Good luck with everything. You have a good heart and head so I know you’ll be fine.
