Kaya: Recap Premiere Episode

Kaya. It’s hard to be a rockstar.

“What makes people buy records? People buy records because they want to get laid.” That’s right! That is the wise advice from the high powered record producer for Kaya’s brand new record. But I guess we need to learn who Kaya is. Kaya is a 21-year old rock new rock star. Crossing Coldwater fronted by Kaya has gone platinum basically overnight and now the young stars are having to deal with the pleasures and pressures of fame. Lets meet the band:Gunner is the drummer and Kaya’s ex.Gunnar is the drummer and Kaya’s ex-boyfriend — who seems to still be in love with her. Within minutes of moving into their brand new Hollywood pad, he starts putting the moves on his vulnerable ex.

The comic relief in the band is definitely Manny. He’s always looking to clear the air and release the tension in his bandmates, especially with their new found fame. Although, it doesn’t seem like even he can help when they learn the Kaya’s slept with T, the bossy producer.

Then we’ve got the token bad-boy (::swoon::),Taylor. He’s definitely the heart-breaker and his weakness is most definitely Kaya. (Who sees a problem arising?! I know I sure do!)

This week, they didn’t waste any time in throwing us into the crazy, eff’d up work of Crossing Coldwater. Of course, Kaya’s has a dadager (her dad is also her manager) who — in true dadager fashion — is running a fine line between business and personal life. He seems to be interested in furthering her career, but possibly with the demise of everything Kaya has worked for. Kaya’s song about her younger sister, who was killed in a car accident, is just one example of how Kaya’s creativity is being pushed aside by record execs in order to make the new album more “consumer friendly.”

This seems to be how the music industry is run today! We’ve got the cookie-cutter artists who just do what they are told and then they go astray (ala Britney Spears) and then there’s a big problem. Could this be the record label’s fault, or is Kaya just being a tad over dramatic. We’ll have to tune in next week to see what happens!
