Throughout the second season of The Hills it was no secret that Heidi’s boyfriend, Spencer Pratt emerged as the guy everyone loved to hate. From his flirting with Playmates behind Heidi’s back, to the downright masterful performance in putting Lauren and her best friend on the rocks, Spencer managed to have every Hills fan wanting to beat his ass if they ever were to cross paths.
Well not this guy. I salute you Mr. Pratt, you are a king among men.
First off:
He’s the reincarnation of an 80’s icon:

As Max would say “Looks like we’ve got d-d-d-d-DOUBLE TROUBLE!”
1. I might be showing my age with this, but try and stay with me here. Back in the 1980’s there was a guy named Max Headroom. He was sort of like a crazy game-show host, and for a few years he was everywhere. I remember the very first time I laid eyes on Spencer, Max Headroom was immediately who I thought of. Here’s a clip for you youngsters out there that probably weren’t even born yet when this aired.
2. The balls: This guy has A LOT of them. Everyone knows The Hills is Lauren’s show, so to have a guy come in, and put her life into total disarray takes some major cojones. His downright ballsiest moment of season 2 was giving Lauren a birthday speech knowing full well just how much Lauren hated him. It was abslutely BRILLIANT! I think we all as a group collectively said to oursleves as he started to give the speech “Oh my god, he’s really doing this! THIS IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING!” and the rest was history.
3. The faces: You could dedicate an entire show to Spencer’s facial reactions:

You can’t teach this, he’s just a natural when it comes to unintentionally funny, cringe-inducing faces.
4. The genius: How many people do you know that could start this many fights between other people? Heidi vs. Audrina to start off last season, then Lauren vs. Jen Bunney, to currently Lauren vs. Heidi, the guy is a better promoter drama than Don King. To be able to be a key part in screwing with so many people’s emotions takes brains. Spencer knows what he is doing and he does it very VERY well.
5. The confrontations: Spencer’s first and arguably biggest jaw dropping moment of last season was his confrontation with one of Heidi’s co-workers:
No matter who he’s arguing with, there are going to be some fireworks.
So there you have it. Sure Spencer isn’t perfect, but in reality who is? Give the guy a break, once you do I think he just might start to grow on you, he certainly has with me.
