A Texas Style Update From Amanda

So I just have to tell you all that Chris and I went to San Antonio and Corpus Christi TX for a week and loved it. We drove twenty-four hours to get to San Antonio, and another two hours to Corpus Christi. It was a long drive! We got to visit our really good friends, who happen to be a military family that is stationed there. I was so glad to visit her because she sits at home alone most of the time. I got to entertain her. I am sure she had an amazing time. They got married young as well. She was 18 and graduated June 2006. By August, she was married. Like Chris and I, they are perfect for each other.

In Corpus Christi, we went surfing…something I had never done. We didn’t get huge waves, but I did awesome. Neither Chris nor I had ever had any lessons; it was our first time. I am a much better surfer than snowboarder. I got up my first time and rode it for a minute or two. I thought it might be harder. I seriously want to move to a beach and surf all day long! I love it! But next time we go? I am totally flying.

Even in Texas people came up to us and asked if we were the couple on MTV. We will never get used to being recognized everywhere we go. A lot of times they tell us that they love the show and wonder when we might do another one. It is hard to think that people across the world know my story and want to be a part of my life. I don’t mind sharing. But it is still weird to have people know you when you are in a city that you have never been to in your life.

SO ALL OF YOU KNOW: I GAVE CHRIS’ MOM A NECKLACE SO SHE WOULD FEEL A PART OF IT. IT IS THE ONE I WORE IN THE TEMPLE. IF YOU WANT TO FIND IT, GO TO THE ENGAGED MAIN SITE AND CLICK VIDEOS. YOU CAN WATCH OUR AFTER SHOW. I EXPLAIN IT MUCH BETTER IN MY BLOG TITLED “REACTIONS TO YOUR COMMENTS”. I SUGGEST YOU READ THAT.

To the girls who wanted to know about my dress. It is actually a designer dress made by Maggie Satero. It was the only modest dress she made. Almost any place you go to will do a modest fill on your dress. There are lots of places in Utah that have modest dresses. You just have to shop around. I suggest any soon-to-be bride go to lots and lots of places until you find the perfect one. Mine was in the 4th place I went to. Just take your time. When you put it on you will know it is the right one because you will love it so much…You won’t want to take it off.

Chris and I did not live with each other before we got married. Everyone said it was going to be hard to live with someone. But it wasn’t at all. You don’t have to live with someone before you marry them to know you are perfect for each other. We have had no problems being married and only have little arguments over things like games and sports…must be because we are very competitive. By the way…I was the better surfer. Write Back!

Hi! I caught ya’lls episode and loved it! I’m also LDS, so it was nice to see an LDS wedding on there. I’m 21, got married when I was 20 on Feb. 11, 2006 in the Dallas, Tx Temple. My husband is 7 years older than me. We were in the exact same situation, his mom is not LDS. So proud you stood your ground. I’ve also tried surfing in Corpus, but was horrible at it!

I think you acted pretty badly and made your church look bad. Why did you need to get that much attention by being on TV? You put your church in a bad light.

I’m LDS as well, and was married at 19, too… in fact, right about the same time as you all, judging by the weather in UT and the Christmas decorations from the show :) My husband and I got married in the Salt Lake temple, too! He’s a lot older than me (27), and we’re perfect together. My family are not members of the Church and we had a ring ceremony too. Everyone was happy :) Just curious, what day DID you all get married? Ours was on 12/23. I’m glad things are going well!

I have to say that I’m disappointed in Chris is mom. I’m not sure why she feel the need to make her son’s wedding day all about her. I have children myself and I would love to be apart of there wedding but if they choose to have a wedding that doesn’t allow me to view it, then so be it. As long as they are happy, then I’m happy. I think it would be selfish of me to force them to celebrate the start of their lives together, how I see fit.
I would hope that Chris’s mom would apologize for that!

hey!im from corpus and i love it there but moved to austin to go to school! i miss corpus soo much, i love the beach!!!Well i’m soo happy for you and i’m glad that everything is going great! I’m planning on getting married in June. I’m 20 and my fiance is the same age.I can’t wait!!!Best of luck to you in the future!!!

Even though you guys were probably the youngest couple, I thought you were the most mature. I know people have given you a lot of crap about the way you treated Chris’ mom, but I think you did the best thing you could in your situation. I’m sure your break down was just from stress, not being selfish. That’s what kinda sucks about reality TV… they can edit whatever type of reality they want.

    Wishing you two the best!

Hey there. I was just wondering what you guys were going to do about children. Also, One day when you two have children you will understand how Chris’s mother felt. You never want to miss your baby’s wedding. That was a hard situation, and though you two did what was best for you, it was hard on his family. I think they did well!

Congrats on getting married! I just wanted to say I think it was wrong to exclude the grooms mother, that wasn’t nice at all! You can still have your own faith, and include others of another faith. God doesn’t want us to exclude people, he wants us to embrace everyone no matter what their faith may be. :o)

    Amanda,
Your dress was beautiful and it looks like your big day turned out perfect! Was it really necessary to be so difficult with your mother-in-law? She just wanted to see her sons wedding as I’m sure you will want to when you have children.

Hey! I watched your show and remembered back to my wedding day when I was 19. Some people wondered why I was getting married so young! I am really glad that you two got sealed in the temple! It was the most amazing day of my life. I hope you always treasure the things that happened that day! Congrats!

Hi! I would have to say that you guys being so young should be so proud to be married. I am 20 and my finace is 20 and we have been engaged for about 1 1/2 years. I really want to get married, I just think it would take to much out of me. I am in college right now, and trying to figure out my next step. I was wondering if you had anything you can say to me to make me decide, which one is better and the right choice since you are now married and seem to be doing great

I just wanted to send a way to go to all of the couples on the show. My husband and I got married when I was 17 and he was 20. We didn’t get married because we had to we did because we wanted to. We got married 7 years ago and we are still loving it. We have had 3 children since we have been married, our oldest son is 4 our little girl (who passed away) is 3 and our youngest is almost 2. I would like to say that any one who feels that they are ready should go for it. If you set your mind to it you can make it. It’s all about the mind set that you have. If you are positive everything would be positive. I’m not saying that it’s always easy because it’s not, but when you are commited you will make it. To Jen who is married to the military and is having some difficulty with it reach out to some of the other women around you that have husbands in the military. They can give you the support that you need. It will be hard at first to step outside of your box, but you will be glad that you did. They can offer you the support that you need. I know that from expirience, I moved to another state, and did not know anyone, I had to step out to meet new people and I found that when I put myself out there I found that I made friends that can offer support that I needed with living away from my family.

I have question about your dress. My older sister is getting married and she is also from Utah and she saw Maggie Sorreno’s grace kelly dress, I’m pretty sure it is the same dress you have. My question is where did you get it from? Is it some place locally in Utah? The only place we have been able to find it is online and it takes to long to get it! i offered her my dress.. i don’t think she liked the idea of wearing her little sisters dress! when did you two get married? Anyway congrats! you two make such a cute couple!

    Hi Amanda,

I just wanted to know how things are going for you and Chris. And how is your relationship with your mother-in-law like now that you are married to her son.
