Byron: Being Married is a Beautiful Thing

What’s up everybody? This is Byron. Ashley and I are still together. And we are happier than ever. In the beginning of the relationship, Ashley and I went through a lot. We had people not wanting us to be together. We had people looking at us funny every time we went out in public. We even had people say nasty things like, “a Mexican girl shouldn’t be with a black guy because black guys are all thugs and gang bangers”. I’m not a thug, or a gang banger. And it really pisses me off to hear people say or think that about me. All I can say to people who are in the same situation I am in is that you are going to go through these things. You just can’t let ignorance stop you from doing what you want to do; don’t let it get the best of you.

Being married is a beautiful thing. It makes you feel good to know you have someone who will always be there for you through thick and thin. A Lot people say that when you get married, life isn’t going to be fun anymore. But it’s up to you to make it fun and keep the spark alive. I want to thank everyone who tuned in to watch the show. You will probably see more of us in the future.

Congratulations to you both… I took alot for you two to decide that you were going to be together against all odds (even if those odds are your family). I guess I can say that because like you… my father (African American) and my mother (1st generation Mexican American) decided to get married despite their families’ opinions. It was hard for them and sometimes they felt that all they had was each other… but they made it… and have been married 30 years… So I am speaking from the point of view that one day your children will hold… a bi-cultural child… well woman now. I am now 24 years of age and I had my own struggles dealing with my heritage from the mexican side really not being excepting of me at first to me, just now at the age of 24, meeting relatives of my dad’s side of the family for the first time. I love who I am and embrace both cultures passionately. I have a greater respect for my parents for all they went through for love… and in a way for me.. being that I am a product of their love. I’m sure your children will feel the same.

Thank you for sharing your story…

I’m glad to hear you guys are still together. My husband was 18 and I as 19 when we got married and we’re going on 4 happy years already. I have more fun now that I’m married than when we were dating. You can still go to school Byron if you choose to. Your father says you won’t have time but if that is your goal then I say go for it. I’m going to school while raising a daughter and should graduate by year’s end. True it’s hard but not impossible. Don’t let anyone say you shouldn’t be together because Ashley is mexican and you are not. That shouldn’t matter. You love who you love and everyone else should respect you guys! I wish you all the best of luck and hope you are as happy in your marriage as I am in mine.

Ashley and Byron. You two are the cutest and best show on “engaged and Underage”—Ashley you definately should have hosted the reunion (the other two girls are a little too lame for me). Byron, I don’t get the racial thing as Ashley is Mexican and I feel they are often more targeted than African Americans as far as sterotypes, etc…Anyway, I am happy to see the two of you are doing well. Lots of Love and Congratuataltions!

Byron and Ashley!! OMG i loved ur episode!!IM just like Ashley and my boy friend is so much like Byron. It felts like i was watching my life on Tv! loved it!! “RED GATORS”, my boyfriend mentioned wearing red gators and a red suit to our wedding, Umm i dont think so.. lol.. I related to your story because im mexican and my boyfriend is black. I totaly understand Ashely, Im the first person to date out side the race and my family took it really hard like i was some type of disgrace to the family. Sometimes its hard having an interracial relationship because of what other people whom you might not know will say about U. We are always having people tell us we shouldnt be together cazuse a mexican girl shouldnt take all the good brothas away from the sistas.. But i mean our love is strong and we are making it like u both did! hopefully One day we can get to the point you guys took ! Marriage! Scary but we truely want that!! Thank you so much for putting you bizz on blast like that it gave me confident to keep my relationship strong!! Thanx!!

Byron, I know you think that we haven’t accepted Ashley because we weren’t happy about you getting married. Son, it doesn’t matter who you married, we just thought you were too young to take on such a challenge. I have accepted that you are a big boy now and as long as you maintain your vibrant personality and persoanl morales you can take on anything. Love always, Mom

Byron and Ashley, I want you both to know that I enjoyed your episode. I pray for you as well. I too, was married very young. In fact I was 19 and now I am 31 years old. If you believe in true love and making it work in your eyes and in the eyes of the Lord, all good things will come of this union. I also want to let you know that while both of your parents were concerned about this union, I believe that their biggest concern was not the race of the other, but your age. As parents they want what is best for their children and want you to make wise choices to better your life. They don’t want their children becoming just another statistic. Love yourselves enough to make God a part of your marriage and to make this union blessed and sacred for the two of you. Let know man interfere with what you share in the eyes of the Lord. Good luck with your new life together. I want you to always remember to keep God first and foremost, remember to pray, and always always always communicate. Communication is way better than retreat. Be blessed.

Byron and Ashley, I just want to say that I really enjoyed watching your episode. I got married when I was 19 and now I am 31 years old. True love lasts no matter how old or young you are. You just have to believe with everything that you are that this is where you are supposed to be in your life. Both of your parents may have had issues at first with you two getting married, but I know they love you and the biggest concern they had was not your race, but your age. They love you and that is why they raise concerns. It is actually of to you two now to show yourselves and GOD, first and foremost that this is a lasting and Godly union. God bless you both and your families as well.
